an apparent shooting outside a
convenience store this afternoon.

Few details are available, but it
reportedly happened in the parking lot
of the Apple Market on Wards Road.

The victim was shot in the side
... he and his brother then drove to a
parking lot off Timberlake Road where
they stopped and asked for help.

He was taken to Lynchburg General
Hospital with what police believe are
non-life threatening injuries.

Both men gave police a description
of the suspects who were last seen
running from the area.

Police are checking the store's
security video to see if they can
identify the men.

hospital.

41- year old William Henry Macki of
Montvale was involved in a physical
altercation with another patient.

As medical center employees were
breaking up the fight, they realized
Macki was in "medical distress." That's
the way a press release from the city
of Salem put it.

Georgia's Aquarium.

They brought two new female whale
sharks to the Aquarium over the
weekend.

Scientists hope to entice Alice
and Trixie to get together with the
bacelor sharks, Ralph and Norton.. who
also live in the tank.

If things work out.. perhaps these
honeymooners will provide the first
whale shark offspring in captivity.

begin tonight with Michelle Wie trying
to make some serious golf history.

Wie is taking part in the 36 hole
qualifying at Summit, New Jersey with a
pile of others - 152 men - to be exact
- and trying to earn one of just 18
spots in the U.S. Open for men.

U.S. Open Qualifying Wie positioned herself to become :00 the first woman to qualify for the U.S.
Open, by shooting a 2-under-par 68 in
her first round this morning. It
marked the first bogey-free round for
Wie in a tournament against men.

The 16 year old from Hawaii
bogeyed the first hole on her second 18
- but really has been pretty steady.
He is even par on her second round, two
under overall and right now just one
shot out of earning one of those 18

spots.

open the Stanley Cup playoffs against
Edmonton at the R-B-C Center.

Pro hockey has come a long way in
Raleigh. One of the first games the
team played in Raleigh was attended by
just 8000 fans.

Tonight - it's all sold out with
tickets going for as much as $350 bucks
a piece face value with the cheapest at
$100 bucks standing room only.

The teams have not played each
other all season - but are plenty

to travel to Chesapeake, Northside must
hit the road and Cave Spring is home
tomorrow at 5pm looking to stay
undefeated.

A number of teams are all alive
in the state soccer tournament on both
the boys' and girls' side. The Radford

boys, the Jefferson Forest boys and the
Blacksburg girls all have home games
tomorrow night - while the other folks
who are still alive, must hit the road.

Also, the Salem Avalanche returns
home for a short three game homestand.
The Avs are home tonight through
Wednesday hosting Frederick.

They just won five out of six on
the road.
