Salem last night ended in the death of
a patient.

The 41-year old man from Montvale
got into a "physical altercation" with
another patient in Ward Two.

In the course of breaking up the
fight, V-A medical staff realized one
of the men was in "medical distress,"
according to a statement released today
by Salem Police.

Attempts to revive the patient
were unsuccessful.

The man's name and cause of death
are pending notification of the man's
family and completion of an autopsy.

crashing her car into a utility pole
last night.

Police say 28-year-old Angelia
Dianne Howell was headed west on
Westover Drive around 11:15 when she
apparently lost control.

Her car crossed the center line and
hit the pole broadside.

Howell was pronounced dead at the
scene.

Authorities are looking into
whether speed or alcohol were factors
in the crash.

Saturday night in a car accident in
Rockbridge County.

The accident happened around 9:30
on route 11 near the intersection with
route 130.

State police say 52 year old,
Steve Hintze (HINT-zee) pulled in front
of another vehicle, and was hit on the
driver's side.

Hintze was pronounced dead at the
scene.

Investigators say he was wearing
a seat belt.

lawlessness on the streets of Baghdad

when at least 50 people were snatched
from bus stations by gunmen in

police uniforms.

Most of those abducted were preparing
to leave the country, but the

attackers also grabbed Iraqis working
in the area. Witnesses say the

kidnappers used police cars and
randomly grabbed people with no reasons

given.

Today's incident follows a weekend of
unrest...including the massacre of

21 Shiites north of Baghdad. In a
nation where attacks are a daily

occurrence...that incident was
especially brutal. Masked gunmen

2 min-vans filled with high school and

executed the Shiites

adjourned the trial until next week.

The testimony was put off after
the defense team protested last week's

were beaten by Iraqi guards.

The trial has faced numerous
delays and setbacks - with two defense
lawyers killed soon after it began and
repeated outbursts in court slowing

Police say Jones was apprehended
after a short chase.

The other inmate who escaped with

awaiting trial in connection with a
2005 shooting in D-C when they broke
through a jail office window around
10:30 Saturday morning.

The two are also wanted in
connection to a North Carolina

hammered out this week.

Governor Tim Kaine told lawmakers
last week he wanted a two-year budget
for the fiscal year that starts July

Kaine said the bonding agencies

Jamie McMurray led most of
the final 90 laps on his 30th birthday,
but he couldn't celebrate, giving up
the lead to his teammate Kenseth with
just three to go.

Kenseth held on for the win.

Kevin Harvick came home third.

UVA wraps up the season with a

Evansville beat South Carolina
last night and those two will play
