ALONG AMERICA'S HIGHWAYS AND ROADS, IT
SOMETIMES SEEMS "BATTLE LINES" ARE

HAS BECOME COMMONPLACE IN OUR
HIGH-OCTANE, HIGH-SPEED SOCIETY AND
OFTEN HAS VIOLENT ... AND SOMETIMES
DEADLY CONSEQUENCES. MOS: I think there
is more road rage in the summer more
so, because of the heat. BUT A NEW
STUDY BY THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO
SUGGESTS ROAD RAGE ISN'T JUST ABOUT
DRIVERS IN NEED OF ATTITUDE

THAT'S HIGHER THAN THOSE WITH OTHER

FOUND ONE OUT OF FOUR WHO HAVE I-E-D
ALSO HAVE RELATIVES WITH THE DISORDER.

road rage is anything more than bad
manners? MOS: I think there's some
validity to it, if you already have a

feasible to me. I think it's just one
of anger and impatience. TRACK: THE
STUDY FOUND THAT I-E-D TYPICALLY STARTS
IN ADOLESCENCE AND INVOLVES INADEQUATE
SEROTONIN A MOOD-REGULATING CHEMICAL
IN THE BRAIN. THEY SAY, WHILE THERE'S

GRAPHIC=BAM Good afternoon everybody and

welcome to the Tuesday ticker that is
loaded with baseball.

For starters - the Avalanche is
home tonight - seven o'clock - for game
two of the series with Frederick.

Also, Virginia Tech has a new
head baseball coach - as Peter Hughes
is leaving Boston College for
Blacksburg.

Hughes has been at BC for the
past eight seasons, but he has some
southern roots in that he played four
years at Davidson.

Last Month Hughes replaces the legendary
Chuck Hartman, who retired last month
after 28 seasons at Tech and 961 career
wins.

Hartman has endorsed his longtime
assistant Jay Phillips - a Tech grad
for the position, and while he was
given an interview, the Hokies decided
to go in a different direction.

This Season Jeremy Jeffress - the six-one and :00 180 pounder from Halifax County was
taken by the Milwaukee Brewers with the
16th overall pick in the draft.

Jeffress was named the Western

Valley district's player of the year
for the just completed season.

His games this year were almost
comical to watch when it came down to
the way he dominated hitters and as far
as the crowd make-up. Scouts with
radar guns constantly clocked his
fastball in the mid to upper 90s.

hottest ticket in the nation right now
- proof of that is that the Stanley Cup
Finals are on the Outdoor Life network.

Still, you can't take anything
away from the finish of game one last
night in Raleigh.

Carolina trailed Edmonton
3-to-nothing, but battled back to tie
it.

It appeared at that time that the
game was headed to overtime.

OLN-NHL But take a look at what happened
with 30 seconds to play.

Edmonton Oiler Ty Conklin turns
the puck over behind the net trying to
clear it, and Rod Brind'Amour is right
there to seize the moment.

He scores the game winner with
the theft behind the net as the
Hurricanes somehow win game one 5-to-4
with Brind'Amour the hero.

The Wildlife Center for Virginia
bid farewell to its uniquely injured
patient behind Hollins Road Baptist
Church.

The goose was admitted to the
hospital back in March.

The center's veterinarians cannot
determine if it will be able to fly
again, but they suspect that the goose
will remain a year-round resident of
the area.
