CHAIRMAN BEN BERNANKE'S COMMENTS ABOUT
INFLATION AND A SLOWING ECONOMY.
THE DOW FELL NEARLY ONE-POINT-EIGHT
PERCENT, ENDING THE DAY AROUND
11-THOUSAND-48.
THE NASDAQ PLUMMETED TWO-AND-A-QUARTER
PERCENT TO FINISH AT ABOUT
TWO-THOUSAND-169.
BERNANKE TOLD AN INTERNATIONAL
CONFERENCE THAT THE FED MUST KEEP
INFLATION
UNDER CONTROL, EVEN AS THE U-S ECONOMY
BEGINS TO TRANSITION TO A SLOWER PACE
OF
GROWTH.
BERNANKE EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT PRICES
OUTSIDE OF THE FOOD AND ENERGY SECTORS
WERE INCREASING AT A RATE THAT "IF
SUSTAINED" WOULD KEEP THEM ABOVE THE
LEVEL
NEEDED TO MAINTAIN STABILITY.
BERNANKE ALSO SAID INCREASING OIL AND
COMMODITY PRICES ARE A CONCERN FOR THE
INFLATION OUTLOOK.
AND, MAXIM IS SOON TO BE MORE THAN JUST
A MEN'S MAGAZINE.
MAXIM'S PUBLISHING COMPANY ANNOUNCED
PLANS TO DEVELOP THE MAXIM HOTEL AND
CASINO IN LAS VEGAS.
THE ONE-POINT-TWO (B)ILLION DOLLAR
VENTURE PLANS TO HAVE 23-HUNDRED ROOMS
AND A
60-THOUSAND-SQUARE-FOOT CASINO... AS
WELL AS A LUXURY SPA, HIGH-END
RETAILERS
AND CELEBRITY CHEFS.
THE NEWEST ADDITION TO THE VEGAS STRIP
IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED IN 2010.
FOR BUSINESS BRIEF, I'M STAN CASE.
