at River's Edge have been off limits.

The main problem is an overuse of
the fields, many see action more than
200 times a year.

To help alleviate the problem,
the city has planted bermuda grass on
two of the fields.

The city currently only has four
irrigated fields in Roanoke.

In reality, the number should be
closer to twenty.

So once Victory Stadium is torn
down, the city plans to add five
additional irrgiated fields temporarily
on that site.

A fireworks company that has a
manufacturing plant in the New River
Valley is gearing up for a Claytor Lake
Festival.

attracted national attention when he
tried to break a US record for reciting
the most digits of Pi or the infinite
mathematical number 3.14.

The goal is to go higher than
current record, ten thousand, six

made it to more than 8-thousand.

spray caused a commotion at the
Municipal Building yesterday.

woman* stole his heart.

April 3 Cecil Nester checked into the VCU
Medical Center three months ago with
endstage heart failure.

The 60-year old was too sick to
wait for a donor- heart.

He became the first person on the
East Coast to receive a totally
artificial heart.

It's a new device that pumps for
both chambers of the organ.

It was connected to a 300- pound
console that Nester nicknamed "Inga."

Nester's wife, Margaret, says she
grew to love "Inga."

After 50- days on the artificial
heart Nester received a donor heart.

He was discharged yesterday.

Medical Center is about to get a
makeover.

Lifepoint Hospitals, which bought
the medical center last year, is
spending four-and-a-half million
dollars building the fifth floor of the
Wyatt patient tower.

The project will create room for
46 new patient beds and the new 325
square foot rooms will replace much
smaller ones in an older part of the
hospital.

Construction should be finished
this winter.

Work on the sixth floor of the
tower will begin soon after.

State Police are using a new
device to stop fast drivers in their
tracks.

Troopers have been relying on
radar to catch speeders, but now more
and more troopers in our area are
getting trained on Laser guns.

The Pro Laser Three is a device
that can actually single out your
vehicle in a pack of cars.

20 troopers were trained on the
device in Wythe County yesterday.

Another 20 or so will be trained
in Roanoke today.

State Police say the laser guns
are most useful in heavy traffic.

months of treatment for getting shot
with an arrow.

The Wildlife Center for Virginia
bid farewell to its uniquely injured
patient behind Hollins Road Baptist
Church yesterday.


The goose was admitted to the
hospital back in March.

The center's veterinarians cannot
determine if it will be able to fly
again, but they suspect that the goose
will remain a year-round resident of
the area.
