a Montgomery County murder trial, after
it took a full day to pick the jury.

September 2005 Eight woman and five men will :00 ultimately decide if Livingston "Bud"
Pritchett is guilty of robbery and
first-degree murder.

Investigators say Pritchett shot
and killed Estel Singleton at the
Ironto rest stop in 1997.

This is Pritchett's third trial.

He was sentenced to life in
prison in 1999, but that conviction was
overturned by the State Supreme Court.

Pritchett's second trial, last
September, ended in a mistrial after a
jury deadlocked.

appeared in court today.

30-year-old Jesse Lee Allen of
Roanoke limped into the courtroom this
afternoon for his preliminary hearing.

In April, Allen was shot by
police after he allegedly robbed the
Sheetz store on Williamson Road.

court today.

She said she remembered feeling a
knife against her back as a man took
nearly 600 dollars out of the register.

Allen's case was certified to the
next grand jury.

at Shakers Restaurant.

The manager was leaving the store
when a man grabbed her and forced her
back inside.

The victim believes the man had a
gun and he stole a bunch of money.

When he was finished he forced
the woman into the trunk of a car.

She was eventually able to get
out of the truck and she ran to
O'Charley's Restaurant for help.

Hooker's entire Roanoke work force of
275 will be permanently laid off.

As with so many other domestic
furniture makers, Hooker has been
undercut and out-sold by Asian imports.

Workers here were notified about an

the company's intentions to close the
plant.

Workers we talked to today were
saddened but not surprised.

win the school's first baseball state
championship.

The first step to making
history is no easy task as the Vikings
must take on the 2 time defending
champs from Tunstall stand in a
Semi-Final on Friday's at 2pm at Calfee
Park.

GRAPHIC=TENNIS The Spring Jubilee actually got


underway this afternoon on the tennis
courts at Radford and Virginia Tech due
to the Rain.

They played the Singles
Semi-Finals and Finals this afternoon
in both Single and Double "A" for the
Boys and the Girls.

Our Area had a chance to bring
home 4 state championships.
Unfourtunately not a good day for the
area kids.

At the Double "A" Level Ed Arsura
from Hidden Valley lost in the
Semi-Finals as did Lauren Billingsly
from Blacksburg.

In Single "A" action Malik Mubeen
from Radford and Sherri Thornton from
Glenvar advanced to the Finals both

maintaining their unbeaten records on
the year. But they couldn't keep the
zero in the loss column, both coming up
just 1 match short of a state
championship losing in straight sets.

Tech continues. Jim Weaver has picked
Chris Riley to be the next Hokie
Volleyball Coach. He replaces Greg
Smith who left to go to Notre Dame.
Riley comes to Blacksburg from Towson
University where he led the Tigers to 5
straight 20 win seasons and a N-C-A-A
berth in 2004.

settle their coaching staff. They will
watch from the sidelines as Vince Hall

looks to bring home the Nagurski Award
given to the Nations top defender. Hall
was named to the Nagurski Watch list
for this season. Number 9 will be a
Red-shirt Junior for the Hokies this
up-coming season and has started for
the past 2 years at Inside Linebacker
for Bud Foster's Defense.

the few upperclassmen in the Virginia
Cavaliers secondary this season.
Hamilton led the A-C-C in Interceptions
last season with 6 and is a team

been a starter for the Cavaliers since
2-thousand and 4.
