10 SBA 11-Walton VO 1 vo Walton OTS 2536 --
GRAPHIC=Walton OTS Percy Lavar Walton was scheduled

to die last night for killing three of
his Danville neighbors ten years ago.

But, about an hour before he was
set to be executed- Governor Tim Kaine

delayed his sentence.

ENG#=1 VO-NAT

VO-NAT Governor Kaine said in a

statement, given the nature of the
crimes, he has no reason to doubt the
judge's decision that death was an
appropriate sentence.

However, it is unconstitutional
to execute someone who's mentally
incompetent and since some courts have
struggled with the question of Walton's
mental capacity, Kaine says he'd like
to have his current mental state
evaluated.

more about where the terrorist leader
has been and whom he s been with.
(Video from Department of Defense) This
final mugshot of Zarqawi and
fingerprints already prove the U-S
military got its man when 500 pound
bombs hit this safe house north of
Baghdad.

(Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of
Defense) RUMSFELD 20:27:34 This has to
be a shock to the al Qaeda system, not
just in Iraq but elsewhere.

The bush administration has offered a
measured response to this long sought
symbolic victory.. cautioning Zarqawi s
death will not stop al qaida in iraq.

(Maj. Gen. William Caldwell/U.S. Army)
CALDWELL 9:16:09 he has probably
identified somebody as his replacement
and we re sure they ll try to incite
violence over next few days to reassert
themselves and show they are still a
viable insurgent organization

Bombs killing nearly 40 people did go

off in Baghdad shortly after the new
prime minister announced zarqawi s
death. Today the prime minister has
ordered a driving ban to prevent
reprisal attacks. There is wide
agreement that someone will step up to
replace Zarqawi.. but not on who that
will be.. some analysts have even
suggested spiritual advisor Abu
Abdul-Rahman who reportedly led US
forces to Zarqawi. His name was signed
to an al-qaida internet post after the
air strike leading to speculation he
wasn t killed.

ENG#1 Percy Walton was scheduled to be put to

death last night for killing three

execution until December 8th.

That will allow time for an
