A roadside bomb targeting a
police patrol exploded in an outdoor
market in Baghdad, killing four people
and wounding 27.
The explosion missed the police
patrol and killed civilians.
The market is in a mixed
Shiite-Sunni neighborhood in central
Baghdad.
The violence follows a deadly day
on Friday were three oil workers were
gunned down on the highway between
Baiji and Tikrit.
Those killed were an engineer and
two civil servants.

her mother were arrested and charged
with assaulting a police officer
yesterday at the state tournament in
Radford.
Brandy Bailey is an
assistant coach for Cave Spring High
School.

The altercation began after this

Witnesses tell News-7 that
Bailey's brother, Chase Preston Bailey,
was in the stands complaining about the
call.
An umpire ordered him out
of the Dedmon Center Softball Field.
As a Radford University police
officer escorted him out of the
stadium, Bailey and her mother
allegedly assaulted the officer.

with felony assault on a police officer
and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Then they were released.
Chase Bailey was issued a summons
at the stadium for disorderly conduct
and released.
Bailey's father said the family
is very upset at the way the situation
was handled.
"My wife and son were
leaving," L-B Bailey told News-7 last
night, "and all the officer had to do
was let them leave the field."

recommended Livingston "Bud" Pritchett
spend the rest of his life behind bars
for murdering a man at the Ironto rest
stop nearly a decade ago.

Pritchett was found guilty
yesterday afternoon on all four counts
including first degree murder.
Pritchett stood motionless as
the verdict was handed down, although a
minute later he removed his glasses and
wiped away a tear.
Pritchett was convicted of the
1997 murder and robbery of Estel
(S-Tul) Singleton Senior at the Ironto
Rest Stop.
The victim's family says despite
having to endure several trials they
never doubted justice would be served.

He will be formally sentenced
next month.
This is the third trial for
Pritchett, the first guilty verdict was
overturned on appeal.
The second attempt ended in a
mistrial.

they will appeal this verdict.

week's hit and run accident in Roanoke.

Dudley was hit while riding her bike on
Patterson Avenue.

Tuesday however a search warrant indicates
Roanoke Police impounded a 1990
Oldsmobile belonging to Judy Valerie
Gibson of Roanoke.
They found paint on the front
license plate and bumper of Gibson's
car that matches the paint on Dudley's
bike.
Detectives say Gibson admitted
she was in the area where the
hit-and-run accident occurred the day
Dudley was hit.

20th when their boat was hit by a
speedboat operated by Mark De

Judge James Updike denied a
defense motion to move the trial
because of pre-trial publicity.
He also will allow prosecutors to
introduce De Tournillion's blood
alcohol level tested shortly after the
crash.
Updike may also allow the
victims' blood alcohol levels to be
used as well.

Amherst County last night.
Officials say the fire in Amherst
Plantation near the county landfill
reached about 40 acres.
The fire is mostly extinguished,
but crews stayed in the vicinity until
around midnight.
Officials say lightning probably
started the fire Thursday night.
No injuries were reported and no
structures were damaged.

announced they're trying to clone human
embryos.
The work at Children's Hospital -
Boston is aimed at eventually creating
stem cells for treating blood

Harvard is using private money to get
around the ban on federal funding.

persons case in Danville, is now a
homicide investigation.

Tuesday in Caswell County, North

Kristie Simmons are suing M-T-D, the
company that made the mower.
Yesterday, engineer Jeff Warren
said the manufacturer could have
included a blade brake/clutch system
that would have stopped the blades when
the mower rolled back.

engineer acknowledged the mower met all
government and industry safety
standards, and carried numerous
warnings to insure its safe operation.
Warren says, there are no riding
mowers on the market that have the
safeguard.
The case will continue Monday.
