been charged with driving under the
influence.

The 21-year old Duke University
graduate and Roanoke County native was
arrested as he tried to avoid a license
checkpoint in Durham around one o'clock
this morning.

Authorities immediately revoked
Redick's license for 30 days for the
U-Turn on a charge of "unlawful use of
highways."

"I regret what happened last night,"
Redick said in a written statement. He
went on to publicly apologize to his
family and to the "Duke community."

Duke basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski
says Redick knows he made a mistake.

"He represented the very best of
college athletics," Coach K wrote in a
statement of his own, saying Redick
"exhibited outstanding character at
Duke...." As his friend and coach,
Kryzewski said, Redick "has my total

was taken into custody yesterday at a

Norfolk Southern office where he worked
as a contract computer employee.

getting some good leads in their
investigation into a fatal shooting
Sunday night.

shot to death inside the home he shared
with his fiance on Early Street.

Police say four men entered the
home just before midnight and attacked
Poe, shooting him in the head.

And while neighbors may be

told you that J.J. Redick was arrested
this morning in Durham and charged with
driving while impaired.

Court records also show that
Redick has been charged with unlawful

use of highways for making a U-turn at
a check point, and his driver's license
has been revoked for 30 days.

at 1am, and it comes just two weeks
before the NBA draft and just hours
after Steelers' quarterback Ben *CG locator Pittsburgh, PA Roethisberger was hospitalized after Yesterday crashing his motorcycle while he was
NOT wearing a helmet.

While the incidents are unrelated
many fans believe they are just more
examples of the "athletic mentality"
that allows many sports figures to
believe they are invincible and play by
a different set of rules.
