GRAPHIC=Nextel Cup Kasey Kahne knew that rain was on

the way, but he had 37 cars between
himself and the lead after pitting to
have debris removed from his grill at
lap 47 of the 3M Performance 400 at
Michigan. But he quickly got back
into contention and Mother Nature
handed him his series leading 4th
victory of the season.

Fox Sports After a 45 minute delay at the :00 start for rain showers, Matt Kenseth
took a ride in the spin cycle. Kenseth
did manage to stay second in points,
with a 13th place effort.

Tony Stewart's shoulder
continues to get better but this hit
after a brush with Jeff Green wouldn't
help. Stewart's shoulder looked fine
as he did some handiwork and took out
some frustration with the hammer in the
garage.

Jeff Gordon led 50 of the first
100 laps, but he wasn't quite as strong
as the pole sitter Kahne. Kahne was
out front when the wet stuff returned
at lap 129 of 200. A torrential
downpour ended the race prematurely and
Kahne was declared the winner. It's
the fifth Cup win of his career.

Hillcats vs. Avalanche Temps soared into the 90's at :00 Salem Memorial Stadium.

The Hillcats bats were equally
smokin' today. Already up 4-1 in the
7th, Lynchburg's Steven Pearce added to
it with the infield bloop. Pedro
Powell races in for another Cats run.

Still in the 7th, Brad Correll
raps a liner to left field, scoring
Nyjer Morgan and Brian Bixler as part
of a five run inning for the visitors.

Lynchburg went on to win it 9
to 3. *CG final Lynchburg But Wilmington won as well, so the 9 Blue Rocks won the first half.
Salem Lynchburg was bidding to become the 3 first Carolina League team in more than
40 years to win a half season pennant
with a sub .500 record.
