The plan includes a name change,

the system's hospitals will remain in
place... but the holding company will
become known as The Carilion Clinic.
With more than 100- million
dollars committed over six years, the
plan calls for new buildings in the
Riverside Centre, where the biomedical
institute is now under construction
It will include a new research
institute that will be a 50/50 venture
with Virginia Tech, and a search for
specialists with national reputations
to chair its departments.

bleachers and other materials
underneath the stands before actual

came out to lend an opinion at
tonight's city council meeting.
The debate is WHERE the new Social
Security Building should go. There is a
site plan to build a new facility on
the corner of First Steet and Wells
Avenue.
Now, after the Oklahoma bombing,
regulations were put into place,
mandating all federal buildings be at
least 50-100 feet away from open roads
with vehicular traffic. So that would
require parts of First Street and
Loudon Street to be permanently closed.
The Planning Commission voted not
to recommed this be done, saying it
wasn't consistent with the vision for
the area, a conern echoed by residents
in opposition.
While the Developer argues by
placing the new building there, it
would bring people to that area and
there for would be able to support any
future retail or restaurants.

Arizona has caused the evacuation of
hundreds of homes and businesses.
It's also leaving a lot of people
wondering, what will happen next.

mountain plateaus near Oak Creek Canyon
in Sedona, Arizona. Firefighters are
worried that shifting winds could push
the flames down into the canyon.
The winds could create major

200-firefighters are battling the
flames.

seriously injured in a fall in
Martinsville say he may never fully
recover.

VO-NAT 48-year-old Michael Hinsberger
HINES-burger survived the 30-foot fall
that killed his boss, 60-year-old
Gregory Harrington.
The two had finished installing
an antenna on this radio tower, when
the cable they were being lowered on...
apparently broke.
Hinsberger is still recovering in
a hospital in North Carolina, but his
family says he may never have full use
of his brain again.

Lake is fighting the allegations that
it violated alcoholic-beverage control
laws.

Last Month Attorneys for Mango's Bar and
Grill today filed an appeal with the
A-B-C board.
The restaurant was charged with
10 alcohol violations -- following an
investigation into whether it served
alcohol to customers who were
intoxicated.
Mango's owners had the option of
paying a 25-thousand dollar fine or
have their alcohol license suspended
for up to 30-days.
A hearing date for the appeal has
NOT been scheduled yet.

County has qualified for the U.S.
Junior National Girls Tournament that
will be held in July in Charlotte North
Carolina. Hollandsworth was one of 5
to qualify at Independence Golf Course
just outside of Richmond. Blacksburg's
Courtney Ellenbogan is the second
alternate.

season as she helped lead the Hokies to
the N-C-A-A Tournament for the second
straight season.

overseas. The James River graduate has
been named to the World University
Games Team that will play in Taiwan on
July 15th through the 23rd.
Tincher was 26 and 9 this past

1 of 4 pitchers on the roster.

negative light too many times. That is
why he is trying to make the Miami
Dolphins as an undrafted Free Agent and
doing it at a position that he played

pump.

the time.

But it is true for one Peacock in
England.
Known as Mr. P, he spends nearly
each day at a gas station near his
owner's home in a small English
village.
The peacock can be seen strutting
his plumage in front of the pumps,
trying to impress, but inevitibily the
gas pumps just do not respond to his
advances.
Mr P's unusual behavior has been
known to catch many of the villagers
off guard.
