soldiers have been found..

It took awhile to recover the
bodies because of fears of booby traps,
and now it will take D-N-A tests to
confirm that the bodies are those of
two American soldiers captured by
insurgents last week.

OQ=News 7. << A military spokesman says soldiers'
(END SOT) efforts to recover the bodies of two

missing military men were delayed

because they feared booby- traps.
Ordinance teams had to
quote--"dismantle some stuff to get the
remains" .and so far the military won't
say definitively that the recovered
bodies are those of First Class
Kristian Menchaca and Thomas tucker.

Major Gen. William Caldwell/U.S. Army:
I can confirm that in fact we have
found 2 bodies.

After a massive four-day search, the
men were found Monday Night near an
electricity plant south of Baghdad-but
their bodies were not recovered until
Tuesday. And compounding the
tragedy...one Iraqi general says the
soldiers were killed in what he called
"a barbaric way". U.S officials won't
confirm that, but concede its possible.

Major Gen. William Caldwell/U.S.
Army:"We do in fact know that based on
the condition of the bodies, it was not
by natural cause of death or just that
they had been wounded mortally and
moved to a location and died."

A faction of Al-Qaida in Iraq is
claiming responsibility for killing
Menchaca and Tucker...but its the same
group that claimed to be holding the

soldiers captive.

In Houston, relatives of Menchaca are
grieving and bitter.

: Mario Vasquez/Menchaca's Uncle:"I
don't want people to forget. I don't
want them to think they were just two
more soldiers. I want them to find the
people who did this and make them pay."

A third U-S soldier was killed in the
attack last Friday at a checkpoint
where Menchaca and Tucker disappeared.

Drew Levinson CBS News, Washington:
Though there is little doubt the bodies
discovered are those of the two U-S
soldiers-the military says it will
still conduct DNA tests before
confirming their ideates.
