convinced a pair of Circuit judges that
they deserve to be tried over again.

VO-NAT Maverick Thomas and Malvester Dixon had

each been convicted by separate juries

of arranging the murder of Thomas'
wife, Lisa in September, 2000.

Billy Ray Manns told the judges today
that the two men had nothing to do with
the murder.

Manns was the Commonwealth's star
witness. In exchange for his earlier
testimony he got a ONE-YEAR sentence.

the New River Valley knew because of
the disappearance and murder of her
daughter died herself this morning.

Katherine Kitty Irwin lost a
more than six-year battle with breast
cancer.

Irwin was a church leader and
teacher. She may be best known for her

impassioned pleas to the court to spare
the life of her daughter's killer.

15-year-old Tara Munsey
disappeared in 2000 and was found dead
two weeks later.

Irwin who was 56 is
survived by a husband and son.

The Department of Game and Inland
Fisheries is raising license fees by

five dollars.

Fees haven't gone up in nearly
20- years, but the cost of running the
department has.

Virginia law says fees can't be
raised again for another three years.

Starting July first licenses will
also be good for one year after they're
purchased.

Different licenses can also be
printed on the same piece of paper.

Game officials are encouraging
sports- men and women to buy all their
licenses at one time to align their
renewal dates.

(END SOT) Deadly gunfire erupted from an unlikely

shooter at a Tallahassee,

Florida prison Wednesday morning. A
guard, one of six indicted for

corruption reportedly opened fire on
Federal agents when they tried to

take the men into custody.

"3 individuals were shot, 2 were
fatally wounded, one of those a federal

law enforcement officer, one was one of
the arrestees."

Police say the guard killed is the one
who opened fire. He apparently

snuck his own weapon into the prison
and used it to attack the agents.

The third gunshot victim is being
treated at a local hospital.

Officials say the facility, part of the
Tallahassee Federal Correction

Institution... is in lockdown and all
prisoners are accounted for.

The FBI is leading the investigation
into this shooting. It's the first

time a Justice Department Inspector
General is believed to have been

killed in the line of duty.

On Tuesday, six guards from the federal
detention facility were indicted

for allegedly trading alcohol and pot
for sex with female prisoners. In

addition, the guards are accused of
threatening to plant contraband with

prisoners if they reported illegal
activity. The five guards not

involved in the shooting have been
arrested.
