(END SOT) lobbyists in Richmond, the City of
Roanoke has decided to be able to
control pricing and service, it's going
to have to ditch the current rotating
list of 18 companies that's not
regulated and contract out.
--22:21:24-34 i think it's a good idea,
simplify what we do, because we won't
have to go through the list, find
equipment, dont' have to worry about
declines
22:55:37-46 why does this person pay x
when other person pays y, we need to
create pay equity while being flexible
The flexibility issue concerning the
City's rought draft of a contract, is
what needs a little work. Towers argue
the pricing scale has to be appealing
enough to wake a truck operator up in
the middle of the night to work an
accident.
22:49:51 there are several variants
that this fee structure just doesn't
allow for
22:38:08 the companies that will offer
services at this price are not going to
have the capability to clear the roads
for police
Now, the City has talked to towers in
other communities and some on the list
who argue the fee structure is fair.
And Spencer goes on to say with 2100
wrecker calls a year from dispatch, if
four companies are chosen, and divvy
those calls up, that can make for quite
a profit.
*22:29:43--volume by no means equals
profability
Both sides admit there is a lot of
work ahead but feel they can reach a
balance. The City's hoping to have the
contracts in place by this fall.

World Cup fever took on gigantic
proportions in Thailand today, where
elephants played a friendly game of
soccer against some college students.
Eleven elephants-- each one's back
painted with different national flags
-- met 11 human players on the field.
Organizaers arranged the match to
convince fans that soccer is about fun,
and shouldn't involve gambling-- which
is common in Thailand.
After two 20- minute halves, the
match ended in a three to three draw.

Somerset, Virginia, just north of
Charlottesville.
He does most of the riding while
Wendy tends to things away from the
