LOCATOR: GAZA STRIP

After nearly two days of firing tank
rounds in empty spaces and ordering

airstrikes on open fields, Israeli
forces turned their guns on living

targets.

Israeli aircraft launched an attack on

a car carrying Palestinian

militants in Gaza City, but witnesses
say the missile missed, and the

intended target was able to escape.

The air assault -- inside Gaza City
itself -- signals that Israeli

forces are fast losing patience with
those holding their missing

soldier, 19 year old Gilad Shalit.

Israeli security forces have also
continued their widespread arrests of

Palestinian Hamas leaders, including
the deputy Prime Minister, who

yesterday criticized Israel's military
operation, saying the battle

being waged was "not to eradicate
terrorism, but a siege hurting the

Palestinian people."

Palestinian leaders call the arrests
"blackmail," but Israeli officials

say those detained would not be used as
bargaining chips to win the

release of the soldier.

Adding to escalating tension: the
discovery of the body of an 18 year

old Jewish settler taken hostage by
Palestinian militants earlier this

week, shot once in the head.

And in a move that threatens to widen
the conflict, Israeli fighter jets

buzzed the summer house of the Syrian
president, who Israel accuses of

having "close ties" with Hamas and the
leader thought to have ordered

the soldier kidnapping.

WE'RE SUFFERING FROM GOOD-BYE
FATIGUE...EXHAUSTED FROM TRYING TO
CATCH THE

DEPARTING HOST WITH A CATCH IN HIS

VOICE.

Good morning america. for 19 years
(voice breaks) almost made it

AND PLEASE! NO MORE DANCING HOSTS...

I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT OF MY OWN TO
MAKE (drumroll) I AM NOT LEAVING CNN. I

AM

NOT SAYING GOOD-BYE. YOU'RE GOING TO
HAVE TO SUFFER through A WHOLE LOT MORE
OF

THESE PIECES

OUR FAVORITE GOOD-BYE TURNED INTO A
CATFIGHT...WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A

SEGMENT OF THE VIEW ON AIR-CONDITIONING
WAS INTERRUPTED BY STAR JONES...

excuse me something has been on my
heart a little bit. the show's moving
in

another direction for the 10th season.
I will not be returning as do host next

year. Awwwww

THE FOUR COHOSTS HELD HANDS...THEY SANG
EACH OTHERS PRAISES...

CHANGED THIS...

nat music

TO THIS.

truth is Star has known for months ABC
did not want to renew her contract and

that she would not be asked back in the
fall

STAR TOLD PEOPLE MAGAZINE SHE FELT LIKE

SHE'D BEEN FIRED AND BARBARA SAID SHE

FELT SHE'D BEEN BETRAYED...

so it is uncomfortable for us to
pretend everything is same at this
table and

regrettably star will no longer be on
this program

SORT OF MAKES DAN RATHER'S COLD
DEPARTURE FROM CBS SEEM CHEERY.
WATCHING ALL

THESE GOOD-BYES TAKES...
