Salem Turnpike at Caldwell Street is
closed bcause of a tractor trailer
accident.

The driver of the tractor trailer
took the turn off Caldwell Street to
wide and fell into a ditch.

Crews are currently on the scene
working to re-open the road.

in Botetourt County was evacuated this
morning because of a fire in the

gymnasium.

Authorities say a large exhaust
fan inside the gym caught fire.

The staff evacuated 56 detainees
into secured areas outside the
building.

the fair has a pretty good safety
record.

In the past week, there have
been two incidents nationwide involving
amusement park rides.

The Salem Fair has had just one
minor accident over the years.

Part of the reason organizers
say is the independent inspector hired
to check all the rides.

It's hard to say how many people
in Virginia are injured on amusent
rides because the state does NOT
collect those numbers.

Nationwide last year, mobile
amusement rides accounted for nearly
25-hundred injuries treated in hospital
emergency rooms.

yesterday afternoon touring the
facilities and meeting some of his new
co-workers.

Hartness has not closely followed
the controversies that have surrounded
the high school recently, but believes
his experience as the assistant
baseball coach for Virginia Tech will
help him deal with at least one of the
issues that had some parents upset.

difference in this accident.

But Goodwin believes the way to
decrease the number of teen deaths in
accidents is by educating them,
encouraging them to use peer pressure
to make friends buckle up.

And Goodwin encourages all
Virginians to lobby lawmakers to make
wearing a seatbelt a primary law.

The A-B-C adopted the rule
because the board didn't want to
advertise alcohol to those under 21.

The A-C-L-U has filed suit

against the A-B-C on behalf of Virginia
Tech's Collegiate Times and U-V-A's
Cavalier Daily- arguing the rule
violates their freedom of speech and
puts them at a competitive
disadvantage.

That's because other state
newspapers are allowed to advertise
alcohol, and those papers are readily
available to students.

Lawyers for the A-B-C had a
deadline yesterday to respond to the
suit, but filed an extension.

its a mistake.

But, authorities in Botetourt
County call it an active investigation.

Donnie Hudgins owns Botetourt
Travel and Tours in Daleville.

According to an affidavit,
investigators executed an search
warrant after nine people said they had
booked trips with Hudgins.

According to the warrant- the
people received last minute calls
saying the trip had been cancelled, but
could be rescheduled for more money.

Hudgins says the problems arose
after an issue with his credit card.

He says he's since cleared the
problem up and once he gets a check
from the credit card company, his
clients will get the more than
20-thousand dollars he reportedly owes
them.

the Roanoke landmark.

Yesterday, the pressbox fell to
the wrecking ball.

And by the time workers leave for
a long holiday weekend today, the upper
level of the stadium will be history.

The heavy equipment is also
making progress with the demolition
debris.

Crews have been separating metal for
recycling, and hauling away concrete to
a private landfill in Bedford County.
