GRAPHIC=Boating Safety The Fourth of July weekend has

already proven to be a busy one at
Smith Mountain Lake.

Last night, eight people were
involved in a boat accident near
Mitchell's Point Marina.

Only one person was seriously
hurt, but game wardens say it could
have been worse.

Jeremy Butterfield has more.

For the seven Astronauts it was deja-vu
all over again.

Just like Saturday-they headed out to
the Space Shuttle Discovery, and just
like Saturday they were strapped into
the orbiter.

(NATSOUND 11:58:53)

"THIS IS BASICALLY A REPEAT OF WHAT WE

DID YESTERDAY

And like Saturday they watched the
darkening clouds and listened to the
NASA engineers discuss their fate.

(NATSOUND 11:04:06)

"CONCERNS ARE WITH LIGHTENING AND THICK
CLOUDS

And like Saturday-the mission was
delayed

John Shannon/Mission Management Team

"NOBODY IS GOING TO REMEMBER THAT WE
SCRUBBED A DAY OR TWO DAYS A YEAR FROM
NOW, BUT IF WE GO LAUNCH AND GET STRUCK
BY LIGHTENING OR HAVE SOME OTHER
PROBLEM, THAT WOULD BE VERY MEMORABLE."

(STANDUP: DREW LEVINSON)

IT S FLORIDA AND IT S JULY-PUT THAT
COMBINATION TOGETHER AND WHAT YOU GET
IS A RECIPE FOR FOUL WEATHER-AT LEAST
IN THE

AFTERNOON WHERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE A
COMMON OCCURANCE DOWN HERE

Each day--NASA has a narrow window of

time--about five minutes--to
launch--and it needs good weather--so
this is like a threading a needle.

For the Astronauts--who have now done
this twice it must be frustrating.

(SOT: JIM REILLY/ASTRONAUT)

"I DON'T KNOW IF IT WOULD BE
FRUSTRATING AS MUCH AS A BIG
DISAPPOINTMENT. HAVING TO GET OUT OF
THE VEHICLE AFTER GETTING STRAPPED IN
AND HAVING YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME AND
READY TO GO TODAY."

It's also disappointing for
vacationers--who spent part of their
Fourth of July holiday hoping to see
the ultimate fireworks.

(SOT: DAWN JUNG/MARYLAND)

"WE DON'T HAVE THE MEANS TO COME DOWN
HERE VERY OFTEN AND WE WERE REALLY
HOPING TO CATCH THE LAUNCH"

(SOT: MALCOLM GREEN/AUSTRALIA)

"IT'S A FACT OF LIFE ISN'T IT? YOU WIN
SOME, YOU LOSE SOME."

NASA will skip Monday--allowing
engineers time to refill Discovery's on
board Hydrogen tanks.

They hope Tuesday the fourth is the
ticket because there's a 60 percent
chance they can launch--after that the
weather outlook is cloudy at best.

this was the rubber match of the 3-game
series.

The Orioles looked like they were
going to win the series early on as
Melvin Mora went deep in the top of the
first, his 2-run shot gave Baltimore
the lead.

But from then on out it was all
Atlanta who opend up the offense this
afternoon. They got Home Runs from
3-players. Wilson Betemit, Ryan
Langerhans and *CG final Baltimore Chipper Jones all went out of the yard 3 at Turner Field that was plenty of Atlanta offense for their starting pitcher,
10 Horacio Ramirez, who pitched 8
strong innings and Atlanta gets the win
10 to 3 over Baltimore.

who had stayed out under an earlier
caution.

The driver of the 20 car wasted
little time getting around the Road
Racing Expert and was able to get his
second win of the season under caution
and he continued the tradition that
started at Daytona a year ago by
climbing the fence to the Flag Stand.
Added something new this year by going
into the crowd afterwards looking for a
way back on to the track. More
importantly he climbed to 5th in the
Point Standings with 9 races to go
before the Chase for the Championship
even with his success, Stewart still
not a fan of restrictor plate racing.
