its mayor.

The vote followed weeks of

Foster says it was important for a
woman to hold the job .

But at least one other council

more than 30 people have died after a
subway train derailed today.

government says the derailment appears
to have been an accident.

co-worker as the university's new vice
president of finance.

Interim lottery director Donna

VanCleave will take over her new post
at Radford on August 15th.

VanCleave worked as the lottery's
director of finance for

six years under Kyle, when she headed
the lottery.

I didn't even think- that's what scares
me the most is that I didn't

think, I just reacted."

Brent Carey is still re-living the
horror..

What started as a relaxing day at the
park with his girlfriend Jessica

Turner and her dog Chance ended in a
battle against a ten foot gator.

"I can't close my eyes without seeing
that gator over Chance's head-

it's awful."

Turner says the fullgrown gator grabbed
Chance while he was in the water

swimming and started dragging him away.

(turner)

"25:05 I could almost grab him and I
thought I'm going to die right now

and Chance is probably already dead."

But that's when her boyfriend Brent

sprang into action.

(brent)

"I guess I ran off the bank and jumped
in the water and just grabbed a

hold of something, the first thing I
could get a hold of."

Brent grabbed the gator near its back
legs...causing it to release

Chance from its jaws...but not without
a fight.

(brent)

"35:05 We rolled over...

"35:14 Once we'd gone under the water
once stuff started setting in- the

sheer girth of this thing it was so
strong."

But the alligator kept
fighting...leaving marks from the
struggle all

over Brent's arms and legs.

"43:22 We rolled the second time- he
kinda rolled in my arms, trying to

get out."

"36:25 When I came up it rolled again

in my arms and I saw the head go

back like this so I just let go and
then all of a sudden, it was calm,

there was nothing but me and the dog."

"Standup: At that point Brent says he
grabbed the dog by the collar

dragging him here to the shore...but
when he turned back around he saw

the gator close behind."

Amazingly both got away from the gator
with only minor injuries.

The Department of Natural Resources
shot and killed the gator shortly

after the incident.
