Officials remind everyone that
careless use of fireworks, especially
the more dangerous and illegal ones,
can cause serious injury or even death.

That's why children should never
play-with or ignite fireworks.

Only light fireworks on a smooth,
flat surface away from the house, dry
leaves and other flammable materials.

Never re-light a dud.

Wait 15 to 20 minutes to let it
cool down and then soak it in water.

And be cautious to only use LEGAL
fireworks.

Illegal explosives carry a
penalty of up to 12 months in jail and

violation.

First, avoid the federally banned
explosives.

Illegal fireworks are classified
as any firecracker or other object that
contains any explosive or inflammable
that is intended to explode, rise into
the air or travel laterally, or fires
projectiles into the air.

Never carry fireworks in your
pocket.

Never shoot fireworks in metal or
glass containers.

Never throw or point fireworks or
sparklers at other people.

Sparklers are also a popular way
to celebrate, but remember, they too

can be dangerous.

Over 50-percent of sparkler
