The town's current system is in
serious need of repair.
The lines are old and small and

strength and condition program
Virginia Tech has one of the tops
in the nation but they will lose a
valuable piece this off-season
After 7 years at Tech, Jay
Johnson will be leaving his post as an
assistant to Head Strength Coach Mike
Gentry to take a teaching position at
V-M-I.

Johnson heard about the position
in Lexington from former Hokie Jimmy
Whitten who is the Keydet Strength
coach.
But it was his current boss who
cemented Johnson getting hired

auction at the Martinsville Speedway
was a huge success last year.
So far the scholarship fund -
which was started to honor the longtime
NASCAR Busch series flagman - has
handed out scholrships to deserving
students from Fleming, Glenvar, Cave
Spring, Frankiln County, Northside,
James River and Eastern Montgomery.

Two weeks from today when the
Busch Series returns to the
Martinsville Speedway for the first
time in 15 years, a special golf
tournament will be held for th cause
just south of the speedway in
Reidsville, North Carolina. Busch
Division drivers, officials and crew
chiefs will be playing in the
tournament.

of Lee and the words "200- Years The
Virginia Gentleman," are designed to
mark the General's 200th birthday.
Organizers have contacted several
groups, including Washington and Lee
University, but so far only 75 people
have signed up.
D-M-V requires 350 applicants to
make the plates.
Organizers remind motorists they
DON'T have to be Sons or Daughters of
the Confederacy-- anyone can apply.
The deadline is July 31st.
