Nat pop: "bye!"

Gamblers in Atlantic City said their
goodbyes just before 8 Wednesday
morning...leaving behind silent slots
that now read "out of service."

The wheel of fortune came up empty for
those hoping a state government
shutdown would be settled before the
casinos were forced to close.

Sot: "Little guys like me, small stores
and trailers on the boardwalk. That's
who it's going to effect the most."

But the effect on the 12 Atlantic City
casinos will also be enormous....an
estimated 16 million dollars a day. The
state will lose more than a million
dollars a day in tax revenue. New
Jersey Governor Jon Corzine says his
hands are tied.

Sot: (Governor Jon Corzine/(D) Governor

"Shutdown is not a discretionary

action, not something concocted out of
my mind because we wanted it to occur,
it is a legal requirement."

The problems started when the state
legislature missed a July 1st
constituational deadline to pass the
budget...leading to a government
shutdown. The main sticking point is
Governor Corzine's proposal to raise
the sales tax from 6 to 7 percent.

Sot: (Joseph J. Roberts Jr./State
Assemblyman) "We need to solve this
problem. This is having an enormous
toll on the people of New Jersey and
it's only going to get worse."

Nat pop: "What do we want? Work?"

It's already bad for the state
employees forced off their jobs. The
shutdown has closed motor vehicle
offices, state parks and beaches and
the lottery.

Sot: "They should not shut down any
business of any state government. Make
a compromise, work for the people."

People like this man....

Nat pop: "what do i do with these?"

.....desperately trying to cash in his
chips before the casinos closed.

"it's closed, it's closed."

to have run out. Wendy Gillette for CBS

NBC It was a match that featured a
streaker interrupting play in the
second set.

The man did a cartwheel and a
dance about 10 yards away from
Sharapova.

The streaker was identified as a
29 year old Dutchman.

It took security 9 seconds to get
to the man before they wrapped him in a
red blanket.

The players say they looked away,
because they didn't want to see all the
"details" - as they put it.
