The westbound lanes between the
1300 to the 20th block of Orange Avenue
were closed yesterday.

A 12 inch water main broke along
the major thoroughfare earlier
yesterday, causing quite a mess.
Crews spent the day cleaning up
the mud and water. But fixed the pipe
last night.
Crews are making a temporary
patch for rush hour traffic today, but
will close one lane after 9:30 tomorrow
to make permanent repairs.

GRAPHIC=Shooting Danville Police are investigating
a shooting.
Police responded to the 100 block
of North Avenue in Danville and found a
male subject lying near the doorway of
the residence.
The resident told police that
four armed men forced open the front
door and proceeded to come inside.
The resident fired several shots
at the intruders, striking at least
one.
The man lying near the doorway
was taken to Danville Regional Medical
Center where he later died.

The Japense snow monkey from Mill
Mountain Zoo has now been missing for
five days.
Zoo keepers have no idea where
she is but are hopeful the animal is
still nearby.
Later today, the zoo plans to
release exactly how Oops escaped.
There are no plans at this point
to cut back the search for Oops.
Although the zoo was closed
during the first two days of the
search, it has now since re-opened.

underway in the town of Dublin.

Congressman Rick Boucher helped
break ground yesterday for eight new
miles of water lines.
The new system will provide water
to about two-thousand households.
The town's CURRENT system is in
bad shape.
The project will cost four
million dollars, that money will come
from federal funds.
Town officials say the project
will be complete by next spring.

he needs to get a smoking ban passed in
Virginia, thanks to a recent Surgeon
General's report.

a ban on smoking in the work place and
that includes restaurants.
He plans to introduce his bill
during the 2007 General Assembly.

guilty to first degree murder
yesterday.
15-year-old Chris Jamison
(JAM-i-son) could face up to life in
prison for stabbing his grandmother to
death.

Jamison told police he didn't
know why he killed the woman who had
raised him. He said he was trying to
figure that out.
When police responded to Poague
(POGE) Valley Road on November 5th they
found that Jean Jamison had been
stabbed repeatedly, and her throat cut.
Yesterday, the teenager listened
as an investigator played the 9-1-1
call, and summarized his statements to
police.
He will return to court for
sentencing in October.
