KING'S CROSS STATION....WHERE THE FOUR

THEIR DEADLY RAMPAGE...WAS A PICTURE OF
TRANQUILITY AS FLOWERS WERE LAID IN

ATTACKS.

THIS WAS THE FIRST IN A SCHEDULE OF
EVENTS AT SUBWAY STATIONS AND THE

PUBLIC SQUARE WHERE 52 COMMUTERS WERE
KILLED IN WESTERN EUROPE'S FIRST
SUICIDE BOMBINGS.

(NAT BREAK)

Within a minute of one another, three
blasts tore through packed subway
trains deep underground at the height
of London's rush hour.

A fourth bomber blew himself up on the
top deck of a double decker bus.

The British public was shocked to learn
the Muslim suicide bombers were BRITISH
born and raised.

ON CAMERA BRIDGE:

A YEAR LATER, TWO MAIN QUESTIONS
REMAIN: WHAT MOTIVATED THEM TO KILL
THEMSELVES AND INNOCENT VICTIMS? AND
WAS THERE ANYBODY FROM THE OUTSIDE
CALLING THE SHOTS?

On the eve of the anniversary...al
Jazeera aired video of one of the
suicide bombers, Shezad Tanweer, vowing
that the attack "was just the

beginning."

It was intercut with al Qaeda deputy
Ayman al Zawahiri praising the bombers.

A previous video left from alleged
ringleader Mohammed Sidique Khan
carried a similar threat.

Both men visited Pakistan three times a
year before the London bombings.

Despite the videos and the trips,
British police still say there is no
hard evidence to suggest a direct link
between the group and al Qaeda.
