First some facts about the
landmark.

It was erected on top of Mill
Mountain in 1949 and is currently on
the National Register of Historic
Places.

The height of the Star is roughly
88 feet and it currently consumes more
than 17-thousand watts.

But soon the Star will be going
dark, at least temporarily.

But Natasha, the city says it will
probably be at least a month.

QUESTION: Justin, currently the Star
is red, white, and blue, are there any
plans to turn it back to just white?

As you know Natasha, the Star changed
colors shortly after September 11th.
City Council recently revisited the
issue and decided as long as there are
active troops in Iraq and Afghanistan
Natasha, the star will remain red,
white, and blue.

For the last 5-weeks, R-J Warren
has been going through records trying
to determine who's buried at East Hill
Cemetary North.

Back in the late 1800's - the
cemetery off of Main Street was known
as East Hill Colored and was reserved
for African Americans.

While some have magnificent grave
markers, others only have rocks or
oddly shaped stones.

while hundreds will never be known.

That's why the Salem Citizens

wall with the people's printed names
placed on a plaque.

A ceremony to honor those buried
there will be on September 2nd.
