night's shooting.

22-year-old William Mack Hayslett
was arrested this afternoon. He's

charged with the murder of Robert
Carsteal Meadows last night.

In a police search warrant,
witnesses say they saw the two men
fighting on Hayslett's porch in the 900
block Ninth Street, Southeast. They
say Hayslett ran into his home,
returned to the doorway with a gun, and
shot Meadows.

Police found Meadows laying in
the alley next to Hayslett's home.

He died shortly after midnight.

Police say they searched
Hayslett's home this morning and found
pistol shell casings in the doorway.

with the murder of a Danville woman.

Late last month, a grand jury in
Danville indicted 23-year-old Jason
Ramon Jordan of Dumas, Arkansas.

are getting a taste of college life for
the summer through Upward Bound.

The teacher is Dr. Robert Cobb. He was
once in the program at Virginia Tech
and came up with the distance learning
classes as a way to give back.

returns to the Martinsville Speedway
for the first time in a dozen years.
Back in the mid-90s hosting Busch
Series events got to be so expensive
that a number oF tracks including
Martinsville realized there were better

opportunities to catch the Busch Series
drivers in action next week.

They will have two practice days
on Thursday and Friday of next week.
Then on Saturday, qualifying gets
underway at Noon and the race begins
three hours later at 3pm.

All seats for the Goody's 250 are
general admission.
