to determine exactly what caused the
deadly carbon monoxide leak at Roanoke
College this morning.

people remain in the hospital tonight,
all are in stable condition, including
the one who was in critical condition
for most of the day.

At one point, more than a hundred
people were treated at two area
hospitals.

Meanwhile, we're learning more
about the man who died, 91 year old

understand he's survived by three

report that one person had fallen and
others were feeling sick.

determined that more people were
affected. They sounded the alarm and
evacuated the building.

Visitors staying in the Sections
residence hall included about 100
members of the Lutheran Church who were
taking part in a conference, and 37
young women attending an Upward Bound
program.

At Lewis-Gale Medical Center the
emergency room was flooded with
patients as the majority of victims
were transported there.

Officials say this is the first time
they've had to treat this many people
at one time.

And they had to act quickly because
carbon monoxide poisoning can be
deadly.

monoxide detector.

But authorities say they're a good
investment for any home that has
appliances which burn oil, gas or
kerosene.

Carbon monoxide detectors can run

And like smoke detectors, they
should be replaced every ten years.

In Andy Griffith's hometown in
North Carolina, there is a bronze
statue of Andy, and Opie, no Barney.

But after Don Knotts died, one
man wanted to change that.

After receiving an ok from CBS,
the man spent nearly
10-thousand-dollars to start the
statue.

But half-way through, CBS pulled
the plug on the project, saying Don
Knotts' wife and Griffith himself
wanted the project stopped.

However, those parties said it
was CBS' decision.

In any case, the man, Tom
Hellebrand, will get a full refund.

water.

Crews have drilled a hole over
the engine, but will have to pump the
water out before dropping a sewer- cam
down to see what kind of shape it's in.

The old engine and as many as ten
flat cars were buried more than 80-
years ago when the tunnel under Church
Hill collapsed.

The remains of at least one
person are also still down there.

Water in the tunnel could mean
the train's too rusty to move, but the
man behind the effort is still
optimistic.

Commonwealth to the other gathered

conclusion, former UVA coach Bruce
Arena has been fired as the head coach
of the US soccer team.

eight years, leaves as the most
successful coach in the history of the
national team, having won 71 games -
more than twice as many as any of his
predecessors. He guided the United
States to two straight appearances in
the World Cup, but this year's

- before that he was the head coach at
Virginia from 1978 through 1995.

brick thieves last night from the
stadium demolition site.

City officials say they will be
increasing the police presence at the
site.

Park and Recreation officials say
yesterday's giveaway WILL BE the last.

They exhausted their supply of
bricks provided to them by the Richmond
contractor in charge of demolition.

But don't give up yet.

This brick showed up on ebay
after the giveaway and there is about
six days left in the auction.
