One person is dead, and more than 100
others were treated at Roanoke Valley
hospitals, the result of leaking carbon
monoxide.
The college has identified the man who
died as 91-year-old Walter J. Vierling
of Pearisburg.
Rescue workers took 62 other victims to
Lewis-Gale Medical Center this morning.
One remains there in critical
condition. Others are still under
treatment.
49 more were taken to Roanoke Memorial
Hospital. Al but two of them had been
released by late afternoon.
The college says problems with a gas
water-heating system are suspected to
be the cause.
