to determine exactly what caused the
deadly carbon monoxide leak at Roanoke
College.

The problem became apparent
shortly before 7 yesterday morning,
with the report that one person had
fallen and others were feeling sick.

Emergency crews quickly
determined that more people were
affected. They sounded the alarm and
evacuated the building.

Visitors staying in the Sections
residence hall included about 100
members of the Lutheran Church who were
taking part in a conference, and 37
young women attending an Upward Bound

program.

among those who went to the hospital
for evaluation.

monoxide detector.

Crews have drilled a hole over
the engine, but will have to pump the
water out before dropping a sewer- cam
down to see what kind of shape it's in.

The old engine and as many as ten
flat cars were buried more than 80-
years ago when the tunnel under Church
Hill collapsed.

The remains of at least one
person are also still down there.

Water in the tunnel could mean
the train's too rusty to move, but the
man behind the effort is still
optimistic.

Thunderstorms and heavy rains
spawned several tornadoes this week

VO NAT in parts of the country. This one
was caught on tape by a police cruiser
dashcam. Two people died in Ohio as a
result of flooding rains and damaging
winds. Many of these same areas could
see more severe storms today.

VO NAT For some the rain, others the
heat. The west is experiancing
temperatures 15 to 20 degrees above
normal. Normal high in Minneapolis, 83.
Today's forecast high, 100 degrees.

This has prompted folks to take
extreme measures to stay cool. Extra
medics were on the grounds of the this
Christian Music Festival, armed with
water and fans to keep people from
getting sick. The hot weather continues
into next week.
