Wednesday night it was exhibit of what
damaging winds can do.

Just before 6 o'clock- the storm with
recorded winds of up to 50-miles per
hour- swept through downtown.



It peeled back the roof, picked up an
air conditioning unit and even hit the
neighboring Roanoke Times- before
coming to rest in the parking lot
between the two structures.

gas line which had been severe during
the storm.



Then crews turned their efforts inside
- moving exhibits and pictures to
*dryer* ground and covering what was
left in case of another round of rain.



It could be a couple of months before
the museum reopens costing it
desperately needed venue.

But the director says there is a silver
lining...

the paper MAY be late tomorrow morning.

Crews just finished repairing the
press moments ago. A spokeswoman says

is trying to figure out whether someone
intentionally set a house on fire
today.

five at this home on Meadors Spur Road.

When the call first came in,
firefighters were told there could be a
meth lab inside so haz mat crews were
called out.

It was quickly determined there
were no hazard materials inside.

The Fire Chief says the fire
started in the kitchen. An
investigator with the Sheriff's

Department says this could be arson.

Fitzpatrick is on track to become the
next director of the Transportation
Museum.

He started work last Thursday.

fourth person to do so since lethal
injection was adopted in Virginia 11-

put to death for the 1994 slaying of
the Hodges family.

The state has been using the same
homemade- oak electric- chair for
nearly 100- years.

More modern electrical controls

electric chair.

VO-NAT Of the 500 adults surveyed tonight,


more than three quarters told us they
support the death penalty, 20-percent
oppose it, three percent say they're
not sure.

When asked if lethal injection is
cruel and unusual punishment 78-percent
told us it is not, nearly a quarter say
it is.

As for whether the electric chair is
cruel and unusual punishment, more than
half say it is NOT, but 39-percent say

it is.

for the man who died in last week's
carbon monoxide poisoning in Salem.

United Methodist Church in Pearisburg
to say goodbye to Walter Vierling.

Vierling was a longtime pastor in
Giles County.

Friends say he remained very
active in the community and continued
to head services from time to time.

Walter Vierling was 91.

natural gas-fed water heater was the
source of the deadly carbon monoxide
leak at Roanoke College.

Friday As we said, retired minister :00 Walter Vierling died, and more than one
hundred other people were treated at
local hospitals after they were exposed
to high levels of the gas in the
Sections Residence Hall.

Investigators believe the
exposure developed over a period of 12
to 24 hours, because some people said
they started feeling ill the night
before the leak was discovered.

The heater system was last
inspected in October of last year, and
authorities say it did have a valid
permit from the state.

upcoming season for plagiarism. Asack
was the first freshman to start at

off the team for other reasons.

shooting a 32 on the frontside of
countryside good for 4 under par on her
round.

Dot ran into a few problems on

the back 9 but nothing major as she was
1 under par for the day and a 2 day
total of 144.

Her closest competition going
into the final round is Cathi Carter
who shot a 73 which is 2 over par.
Carter made a number of clutch Par
Putts to keep her round going. She
trails dot by 7 strokes after 2 rounds.

belonged to Fay Stewart she won the
Super Senior Division on Tuesday with
an 84. Showing things only get better
