While family and friends honored
Walter Vierling, investigators in Salem
outlined the cause of the carbon
monoxide leak that took his life.

They say a "natural gas- fed
water heater" was the source of the
leak. And this morning they described
how the gas may have spread through
three dormitories.

OQ=feeling the same symptoms. Salem Fire Chief Pat Counts told


reporters that normally any carbon
monoxide would be vented outside the
building.

In this case a failure in the
heating system allowed the gas to fill
the mechanical room, and a fan pulling
in air from outside helped spread the
gas throughout the residence halls.

He said Roanoke College has
cooperated with investigators and will
continue working to isolate the system
failure.

Industry on October 31st of last year,
and did have a valid permit.

of smoke inhalation when their home
caught fire early yesterday morning.

She quickly extended that lead by
shooting a 32 on the frontside of
countryside good for 4 under par on her
round.

Dot ran into a few problems on
the back 9 but nothing major as she was
1 under par for the day and a 2 day
total of 144.

Her closest competition going
into the final round is Cathi Carter
who shot a 73 which is 2 over par.
Carter made a number of clutch Par
Putts to keep her round going. She
trails dot by 7 strokes after 2 rounds.

belonged to Fay Stewart she won the
Super Senior Division on Tuesday with
an 84. Showing things only get better

$5,000 to restore a vintage rail car
called the President One.

The director spent all but a few
hundred dollars of it on furniture and
other things.
