spent yesterday looking into a deadly
fire in the Bassett area.

The Sheriff's Department says the
flames on Birkdale Lane were reported
around 2:30 yesterday morning.


Two bodies were found inside.

Investigators believe this fire
was started by a frayed electrical
cord.

Millsville Lane near Tunstall around

The home was engulfed when

hanging off the roof of the Kent Square
Parking Garage.

Two maintenance men rescued the
furry feline.

They said it had slipped down a
slanted tin roof and got stuck in a
gutter...five stories above ground.

They managed to get it out, but
then the cat darted around the roof and
onto a tiny ledge.

They finally caught the cat and
are keeping it in an empty apartment
until someone claims it or adopts it.

frayed electrical cord triggered a
fatal fire on Birkdale Lane in Bassett.

Two bodies were found inside.

They've been sent to the medical
examiner's office for identification.

Carnival have all been burglarized.

The Roanoke police say the
incidents seem to be related because

monoxide incident at Roanoke College
during a news conference later this
morning. Yesterday, the the school's
President appointed a five member task
force that willl study the accident and
help develop the college's long- term
response.

Street bridge located just off Route
220 in Ridgeway. More than four
thousand people a day could be affected
by the closure.

If approved, the project would begin
in 2008 and would cost more than four

created in Amherst County.

England's Stove Works broke ground
yesterday for a 75-thousand square foot
manufacturing facility in the Amelon
Commerce Center. The company makes a
