Ever since North Carolina started its
own lottery back in March, many
retailers along the Virginia/North
Carolina border have seen a dip in
sales.

So far, that's added up to nearly
seventeen million dollars in loses.

That's pretty significant when you
consider so far North Carolina is only
selling scratch tickets. Many Virginia
retailers fear the situation is only
going to get worse.

The Virginia Lottery says it's
not surprised by the declining sales
along the border.

But officials point out studies
have shown state lotteries in similiar
situations have bounced back after a
year.
