GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident Virginia's highway death toll
this year is now up to 500. This comes
after two people were killed in an
accident in Campbell County on
Saturday.
The drivers were killed when
their vehicles collided
on *Route-501.*
State police identified the
victims as 56-year-old
Robert Woosley of Brookneal and
21-year-old Megan Leigh *Hodnett* of
Long Island.
The toll is now 43 higher than
this time last year.

custody for setting fire to a mobile
home.

Investigators were called to the
fire on Stone's Keep Lane around nine
o-clock Saturday night.
Firefighters found the
single-wide mobile home engulfed in
flames.
Some neighbors watched as crews
tried to put the fire out.

Neighbors say one man inside the
home was able to get out safely.
When Sheriff's deputies arrived,
they were told the fire had been set
after a domestic dispute.
A short time later -- deputies
arrested a female who is now being held
in the Montgomery County Jail charged
with felony arson.

plant are awaiting word on when they
can go back to work.

Fire investigators still don't
know what caused the explosion that
mangled the inside of this Pesco
Solvent building at the Roanoke
Industrial Center.
The impact of the explosion
shattered nearby windows and crumbled
doors.
Investigators say the odor that
residents may have smelled during the
fire was not a harmful chemical, and
posed no danger to people nearby.
Investigators say it could be
weeks before the cause of the explosion
is determined.

GRAPHIC=Road Closed Drivers in Roanoke County may
want to take some diferent routes for
parts of the next two days.
TAKE APRISA, MAP TAKE MAP
The rail crossing on Shadwell
Drive will close to allow Norfolk
Southern to replace rail and ties and
to resurface the crossing.
The road will be closed this
Monday and Tuesday, from eight A-M
until six P-M.
Norfolk Southern advises drivers
to take Sanderson Drive to Reed
Mountain Road and onto Lee Highway to
avoid the repairs.

dozens of reported accidents around the
country involving the sport -- some
even resulting in death.

during Sunday services at a Roanoke
church.

January 2004 You may remember Mount Moriah
Baptist Church was broken into and
ransacked two years ago.
Since then, the church has been
able to get back on its feet.
Yesterday, the congregation
gathered for lunch to celebrate the
history of the aging church.
Members say the church was
established nearly 150 years ago as the
place of worship for slaves working at
Hollins College.

adoption-- two donkeys from Galax now
have a new place to live.

June A woman in Fancy Gap found the
donkeys wandering in her yard last
month.
They've been at the Galax Animal
Shelter ever since.
The stray donkeys generated
hundreds of phone calls.
Earlier this weekend, they were
sold at an auction.
Ron Schwartz of Floyd County
bought both donkeys for 575-bucks.
The shelter had to hold an
auction because by law, the shelter can
not let someone adopt livestock.

have a more attractive view of Liberty
University.
The university is the first
private entity to take advantage of a
state law that allows communities and
individuals to landscape *government
rights-of-way* along roadways.
The university will work with
sponsors to plant and maintain gardens
and trees along 460 next to the
Lynchburg campus.
Small signs along the highway
will recognize donors.

Roanoke city police car..thanks to new
paint and graphics.

The goal is that the highly
visible cars will enhance police
presence in the community
The makeover will cost the
department about $1500 per car.
The money won't come from local
tax payers, but from money that has
been recouped from criminals in the
city.
The department plans to re-do an
average of 5 cars per week and say the
cars should be finished by mid-fall.
