saying two workers were trapped
underground at the site.
Police say the other workers had

GRAPHIC=Legal Scales A Roanoke man got a life sentence
today for murder he committed nearly 20
years ago.

Thomas Lee Crowder broke into a
first-floor apartment in the Raleigh
Court area and killed an 87-year old
woman.
That was in 1987.
The case went un-solved until
late last year when a new D-N-A sample
from Crowder produced a "cold hit."
He was charged with killing
Bertha Sommardahl.
He did not contest the charge.
Today the judge decided there was
only one appropriate sentence given
these facts, and that was LIFE.

convicted of misdemeanor trespassing

The 16-year-old and his parents have
been in a legal battle with Virginia
Social Services because the teen
doesn't want anymore chemotherapy for

Last week, a juvenile court judge

boy to report for chemo treatments. But
today's ruling overturned that.

Diego, California has now scorched more
than 15-thousand acres...

about 15 thousand acres.
About five percent of the fire is
contained.
