Last Night The two men were working on a
broken sewer line at the New River
Valley Mall around five o-clock when a
trench collapsed.
47-year-old Billy Eugene
Casey from Bluefield, West Virginia was
released from the hospital last night.
According to workers at the
site, Mike Schultz, from Peterstown,
West Virginia, was kept overnight for
observation.
Co-workers say Schultz was
buried alive and it was difficult to
free him from under the mud and water.
Schultz and Casey were in the
14-foot deep trench when a wall gave
way.
The Virginia Department of
Labor is on the site today
investigating the accident.

champion Benny Parsons with lung
cancer.
Parsons was diagnosed two weeks ago
after he had trouble breathing. He is
beginning treatments today.
He says his last cigarette was in
1978 and he's hated being around
smoking since then.
The 65-year-old Parsons is currently
a racing commentator for N-B-C.

17 year old Zachariah Blanton faced a
judge and some very serious charges
this morning in an Indiana courtroom.
He's charged with murder, attempted
murder

and criminal recklessness for allegedly
shooting at motorists from a highway
overpass.

"For reasons we don't really understand
at this point opened fire."
One man was killed and another wounded
in a one-day shooting spree. Police say
Blanton was out hunting with friends
and family this weekend when he became
upset over an argument...stormed off
and began shooting at random.

"You have to assume that there was no
contact and no knowledge of who the
victims might be."

Blanton remains in jail here in
Brownstown. But on Monday, just a day
after the shootings, co-workers in his
hometown of Gaston said Blanton showed
up for work as usual and never
mentioned the attacks.

Blanton apparently has a reputation for
bad behavior.

"He's gotten in trouble a lot,
trouble-maker, he's gotten into all
kinds of trouble for being mean to
people and stuff."
But his neighbors say they saw a
different side of the teenager.

and I've never heard of the neighbors
having problems."
The charges against Blanton make him
eligible for the death penalty but
prosecutors have yet to decide if they
will seek that punishment if he is
found guilty.

after a fiery crash last night.

Authorities say a driver crashed into
a gas meter near the family's home
around midnight-- sparking a huge fire.
Seven fire departments were called
out to help, because gas was fueling
the flames.
The second floor of the house
collapsed.

when the fire started, but they all got
out okay.

a new community center soon thanks to
the Danville Regional Jail Foundation.
It announced this morning that it
will donate three million dollars to
pay for the project.
The center will be constructed on

for area building projects.

accident on Route 220 South has closed
both lanes of traffic near
Sydnorsville.
