A hospital spokesperson says no
one was injured, and no patient areas
were affected.

But the fire did cause some external
damage to a warehouse bay in the back
of Building 143.

An employee on an upper floor
spotted the flames around 12:30 A-M.

Hospital staff and Salem
firefighters responded... and they
remained on the scene for more than two
hours venting smoke from the warehouse
area.

Spectators felt the heat but not
nearly as much as the performers. Each
music group practices up to six hours
before the competition.

By the time the show gets
underway, each corp member is in an
uniform, but they all drink plenty of
water before and after they take the
field.

It was one of the hottest shows
in recent memory but organizers say
they still had a record crowd of nearly
four thousand people.

Because of the recent heat,
Governor Tim Kaine is directing state
employees to take measures to reduce
energy consumption.

S-B-A Properties out of Norfolk
first approached the city last fall
about attaching a 165-foot cell tower
to Saint Elizabeth Episcopal Church.

But, after residents petitioned
the plan, the company withdrew its
application to come up with something
better.

The revised plan now includes a
smaller tower -- 120-feet -- hidden
inside a steeple.

The city will review the revised
plan next Tuesday.

Residents say they've already
started a second petition.

Less than a month after the

Democrat Jim Webb may be down in the
polls but he vows to make it up by
listening to how Virginians feel about
the issues.

And in this particular Roanoke
living room yesterday, Webb and his
supporters talked about economic
disparities, the War in Iraq, education
and stem cell research.

The former Secretary of the Navy
believes the U-S should have never
invaded Iraq and believes we should
talk more with other countries like
Syria.

Webb believes some of his biggest
challenges in the race are funding and
the lack of name recognition across
Virginia, something he's hoping to
combat as he travels the state.
