Salem V-A Medical Center early this
morning, as a burning dumpster sent
smoke through a portion of the main
building.

A hospital spokesperson says no
one was injured, and no patient areas
were affected.

But the fire did cause some external
damage to a warehouse bay in the back
of Building 143.

An employee on an upper floor
spotted the flames around 12:30 A-M.

hours venting smoke from the warehouse
area.

wielding bank robber was no match for a
76- year- old bystander.

Floyd Landis' backup doping test will
be announced Saturday. The New York
Times is reporting that his first test
showed that some of the testosterone in
his urine sample was synthetic and not
naturally produced by his body as he's
claimed.

THE SAMPLE ON THE DAY OF HIS AMAZING
COMEBACK THROUGH THE ALPS - THE 17TH
STAGE OF THE RACE. IT SEEMED TOO GOOD
TO BE TRUE IN PART BECAUSE LANDIS HAS
AN INJURED RIGHT HIP THAT MAKES IT
PAINFUL TO WALK, LET ALONE PEDALING
nearly 3-thousand miles - THE
EQUIVALENT OF 3 MOUNT EVERESTS. LAST
WEEK, LANDIS STRONGLY DENIED THE

decided to step down.

At 70 years old Radford head
coach Norm Lineburg LIN- uh- burg isn't
retiring however, just handing over the
reins to another coach.

(END SOT) For the past 36 years Norm

Lineburg has prowled Bobcat Stadium in
the fall like no other.

The field inside the stadium was
appropriately named in his honor back
in 2004 - but even that kind of outward
recognition from the City isn't nearly
enough for a man who is a member of
multiple hall of fames.

All of his numbers are impressive
- yet they only tell part of his story.

Norm Lineburg has coached more
games than anyone in Virginia High
School League history in his 45 years
as a head coach at three schools.

He's coached so long that
Eisenhower was in the White House when
he began as an assistant at Andrew
Lewis. 6 decades, thousands of young
men and 310 wins later - the Virginia
Gentleman is stepping away - retiring
after the upcoming 2006 season.

One of Friday Football Extra's
true kings leaves on his own terms -
not surprising - considering he's
always had things in the proper
perspective.

the Nationals as expected - Sean Casey
was shipped from the Pirates to the
Tigers.

The Yankees traded Shawn Chacon

baseball tournament is being held this
week at Kiwanis Field.

American Legion Post 3 Eight teams from across the state
of Virginia will be playing for the
state crown starting today, with over
100 of the state's most talented
baseball players in the valley for the
competition.

Post three hosted a banquet last
night for the players and coaches with
Nelson Metheny, a former Salem High
School and American Legion Pitcher, who
signed with Phillies serving as the
guest speaker.

Roanoke's team plays today at
1pm, and Salem plays at 8 tonight.
