Around lunchtime yesterday,
several workers were doing their jobs,
despite the sweltering temperatures.

Some folks trying to do what they
could to stay cool...drinking lots of
water...staying in the shade...and even
bringing fans.

One vendor said the heat brought
something else...a dip in business.

Lewis-Gale Medical Center says it
had several patients come to the E-R
yesterday for a heat related illness.

A doctor there says people don't
realize just how quickly heat
exhaustion can happen, and then
progress to heat stroke which can be
deadly.

Forecasters are calling for
sweltering temperatures back in the
90's and pushing 100 from Massachusetts
to Florida.

Dozens of deaths are being blamed
on the heat, including four in
Maryland.

Power grids have strained under
the record-setting demand.

Power companies are asking
customers to conserve energy at least
through tonight when a cold front is
expected to bring some relief and
temperatures down into the 80's.
