The family support group that has
welcomed soldiers throughout the past
couple of weeks saved the best for
last.

Family and friends yelled in
delight as soldiers walked off the
planes to the sound of patriotic tunes
being cranked out on a boom box.

Organizers say after yesterday,
every member of the 80th Division who
shipped out 15 months ago will be home.

Among the crowd at the Roanoke
Regional Airport were officers,
detectives, and cadets from the Roanoke
City Police Department waiting for one
of their own.

Shane Fletcher returned home
yesterday evening to a welcome he
described as overwhelming, and said
he's looking forward to catching up
with friends and family.

Fletcher was one of three Roanoke
City police officers who shipped out to

Iraq 15 months ago.

The other two, Chris Dillon and
Kevin Assenat (ASS-uh-nay) were
injured by a suicide bomber last
December and returned home to recover.

Yesterday Dillon and others said
they are happy to have their friend and
fellow officer back home in western
Virginia.

Virginia National Guard soldiers will
soon head to one of the world's hot
spots, and it's not in the Middle East.

Soldiers from the 1st Battallion,
116th Infantry will deploy to Kosovo.

They'll be part of a UN

peacekeeping mission called Taskforce
Falcon.

The soldiers will be in a region
where ethnic Albanians and Serbs have
been fighting for years.

The soldiers will first train in
Indiana, then travel to Eastern Europe.

They're expected to return in
late 2007, or early 2008.

trying to find the man who held up a
grocery store at gunpoint yesterday.

When the employees arrived at
8:00 yesterday morning he surprised
them with a semi-automatic weapon.

Investigators say he forced about

There are some restrictions, but
school supplies 20- dollars or less and
clothing 100- dollars or less will be

sold sales- tax free.

stores are using the tax-free weekend
as an added incentive for customers.

Nearly a thousand people show up
every Thursday at Elmwood Park to shag
the night away and forget about their
worries.

activity, one had to drink plenty of
water and take plenty of breaks to
withstand the grueling heat.

Party-goers have to pay to six
dollars to get in but it's all for a
good cause.

Proceeds benefit several local
charities and last year that added up
to nearly 12-thousand dollars.

GRAPHIC=Ford Ford Motor company is recalling


more than one million trucks, SUV's and
vans- over the possibility of engine
fires.

VO-NAT Ford says the models recalled are


some F-series trucks, Excursions,
Econoline vans and E-450 vans as well
as Explorers and Mountaineers.

The problem is the speed control
de-activation switch system, which

could corrode, overheat and catch fire.

The recall involves some vehicles *CG locator Ford Video dating back to the 1994 model year and
is an expansion of one of the bigger
recalls in history.

Federal safety regulators have
completed a two-year investigation into
the fires... after receiving nearly
15-hundred complaints and 65 reports of
fires.

The regulators say there are NO
confirmed deaths or injuries but
lawsuits have been filed in the claims
of three deaths.

10 months now, slipped by police again
yesterday.

Troy Leon Goad is wanted for a
crime spree that spreads through Wythe,
Smyth, Grayson and Carroll Counties.

He's a suspect in more than 40
break-ins.

Investigators say Goad lives in
the woods with his 16 year old
girlfriend

and that he travels from county to
county robbing seasonal homes, cabins
and campers.

But now they believe he's started
breaking into houses when people are

Police say Goad broke into a
house on Panther Creek Road and the
homeowner actually chased him away.

It sparked a massive, all night,

"Doogie" Hughes hid from police for 9
months in Montgomery County until he
was caught last July.

He was wanted for numerous
burglaries.

Through a plea agreement, Hughes
admitted to several crimes and was
