accident last night in Campbell County.

Several rescue crews were called
to Browns Mill Road, southwest of
Rustburg in Campbell County at 9:30.
State Police say the vehicle ran
off the right side of the road, struck
a tree, and overturned.

Yesterday There is one confirmed fatality,
16-year-old Emily East of Evington.
We understand she was a passenger
in the vehicle.
At least four other teenagers
were injured.
They were all taken to Lynchburg
General Hospital.
State Police closed the road, but
reopened it shortly before midnight.

for the Sheriff's Office: two marijuana
patches near Axton yielded more than
two thousand plants.

An aerial search of the county
turned up more than 17- hundred plants
near Hairfield Lane, and more than 500
plants near Sandy River Road.
They averaged about five feet
high, and the department estimates
their value at more than two million
dollars.
Investigators are asking anyone
with information to call the Henry
County Sheriff's Office.

they showed elevated levels of
testerone.
Landis now faces the loss of his title
and two year ban from cycling.
The Swiss team he rides for immediately
fired him this morning after the
results were released. The team says he
violated the internal Code of ethics.
Landis maintains he has never taken ANY
banned substance. He says he won the
race because he was the strongest man.
Landis' spokesman says his lawyer is
preparing a case for arbitration.

2nd when Oops opened the latch to her
cage and let herself out.
That led to a massive search that
ended a week later when Opps was found
in a woman's backyard in Garden City.
Healthwise, the monkey was ok but
just in case needed to be quarantined
for thirty days.
She was reunited with her family
Friday morning.

A company in Chester, Virginia
produces 65 tons of ice a day, but when
temperatures hover near 100 degrees
like this past week, that level of
production is not nearly enough.

hit portions of the U.S., including
Virginia, "City Ice" has been dipping
into its reserves to keep hundreds of
clients happy.
From restaurants, convenience
stores to hospitals, the higher than
normal temperatures have forced many
businesses to run out of ice at a
faster pace than usual.
But because the businesses are
calling for ice supplies several days
ahead of their scheduled delivery, ice
companies are working overtime to keep
up.

VO NAT The floodwaters were high in
South Africa on Friday, after
torrential rains swept across parts of
the country on Wednesday and Thursday.
Unusually heavy rains on Wednesday and
Thursday turned streams into raging
torrents, forcing the evacuation of
thousands of people Wednesday and
Thursday. Rescue services used
helicopters, boats and even jet skis to
try to reach stricken people.
Snow, freezing temperatures and
gale force winds hit many parts of
South Africa on Wednesday and Thursday,
with Johannesburg, recording snow for
the first time in eight years on
Wednesday.

attempted
first-degree murder.
At their initial court appearance
Hausner and Dieteman were ordered to be
held without bond. Their
preliminary hearings are set for August

killing and police say the couple had a
history of domestic problems.
Womack pleaded guilty to first
degree murder yesterday morning.
He'll be sentenced in September.

Now, the founder of the school
near South Boston is facing federal
fraud charges.
In a 36- count indictment
unsealed yesterday, prosecutors allege
that Robert Glu-ha-reff (glu-HAH-reff)
devised fraudulent schemes to obtain
money.
They say he defrauded financial
institutions, deceived parents of
students, and wrote checks that he knew
would not be honored.
Gluhareff did not enter a plea at
his initial hearing yesterday.
He will be arraigned later.

yesterday inside a Bassett Furniture
building.
