(END SOT) (NATSOUND)

On the very weekend the UN is debating
a ceasefire resolution - the Middle
East couldn't need one more.

For Israel, Sunday was the deadliest
day of the war so far.

The night calm turned into chaos in
Haifa as Hizbollah rockets once again
blasted the northern Israeli city.

At least three people were killed and
dozens more were wounded.

(LOCATOR: KFAR GILADI)

And near the communal farm of Kfar
Giladi a rocket struck a group of
Israeli reservists waiting to go into
Lebanon. 12 were killed.

(LOCATOR: BEIRUT)

In Lebanon-Israel continues to strike
hard.

Rockets still rain on parts of the
capital city of Beirut.

(LOCATOR: TYRE)

And an air assault around Tyre left 10
people dead including six Lebanese
soldiers.

Super: FILE

Israel also fired into the village of
Qana again.this time in retaliation for
the Haifa attackthe military says it
was targeting Hizbollah rocket
launchers.

(STANDUP: DREW LEVINSON/THE UNITED
NATIONS)

With the fighting starting to hit a
fever pitch in Middle East-here at the
United Nations the security council is
expected to vote this week on a
ceasefire resolution. Many fear-even if
it passes it won t be worth the paper
it s written on.

Lebanon s parliament speaker angrily
said his country has already rejected
the proposal because (Israel Defense
Force Video) it allows Israeli forces
to remain on Lebanese soil. But Israel
says until Lebanon s border can be
policed, it s forces are going nowhere.
(end IDF video)

(Daniel Ayalon / Israeli Ambassador to
the United Nations)

"If we could do a simultaneous
operation where the international force
comes in we will phase out."

Of the nearly 700 casualties suffered
by both sides the majority have been
civilians. Those deaths are one reason
the UN is seeking a ceasefire-but from
the sights and sounds and cries coming
out of the Middle East this weekend an
end to the violence doesn t look likely
anytime soon.

not today. The 24 went three laps down
after suffering a broken bolt on the
front sway bar.

Points leader Jimmie Johnson
came in to fix a flat at lap 40 and
then got a little hot under the collar
thanks to a fire in the pits as he
exited.

But he fought his way back to
the front, and on fresh tires passed
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. for the lead with
10 to go. Johnson then held off Matt
Kenseth to take the checkers. Five of
the past 8 winners at the Brickyard

have gone on to win the championship.

About three-thousand sets of
twins turned out in northeast Ohio this

weekend for the 31st annual Twins Day
Festival.

The festival included a parade,
golf tournament, talent shows and
contests.

The twins and others may be there
for fun, but medical researchers also
go there to conduct serious studies.

One doctor researching the onset
of diseases says he finds interviewing
twins critical to his research --
particularly if one has a disease while
the other does not.
