OQ=New York. < (END SOT) NOW THAT OIL GIANT B-P HAS SHUTDOWN THE

NATION'S LARGEST OIL FIELD - ALASKA'S
PRUDHOE BAY.. KNOCKING 400-THOUSAND
BARRELS OF CRUDE OIL A DAY OFF THE
MARKET.

John Kilduff, Energy Analyst, FIMAT

USA: "It was really a shocker. Because
is the oil that we count on and take
for granted. This is the geopolitically
safe oil. It's our oil. US oil.:

THE ALASKA PIPELINE WAS TAKEN OFFLINE
EARLY SUNDAY BECAUSE OF SEVERE PIPELINE
CORROSION. AND WORD IT COULD BE OFFLINE
FOR MONTHS.

Kilduff: Oil companies are sitting on
record amounts of cash. It's almost
inexcusable that this pipeline could
have deteriorated the way it did.

ALEXIS STANDUP - NYC: WHILE THE
GOVERNMENT SAYS THE SHUTDOWN WILL NOT
PUT THE SQUEEZE ON GAS SUPPLIES...
ANALYSTS SAY EXPECT TO START PAYING
MORE AT THE PUMP ALMOST IMMEDIATELY...

Kilduff: Initially a nickel a gallon.
But look for a 10, 20, 25 cents, 30
cents potentially higher at the pump
depending on how long it lasts.

THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION SAYS IT WILL
TAP INTO THE STRATEGIC PETROLEUM
RESERVES IF NEEDED... BUT ANALYSTS SAYS
THAT WILL DO LITTLE TO STEM THE
INCREASE AT THE PUMP. ALREADY JITTERY
OIL TRADERS SENT CRUDE PRICES
SOARING...

AND MORE VIOLENCE IN THE MIDDLE EAST,

THE POSSIBILITY OF IRAN USING OIL AS A
WEAPON IN ITS NUCLEAR STANDOFF OR
ANOTHER DEVASTING HURRICANE IN THE GULF
COULD SEND OIL PRICES TO LEVELS NEVER
SEEN BEFORE.

Kilduff:: Its just a cascade of supply
problems that keep pushing oil prices
higher and higher and higher... In the
face of demand that's unrelenting.

AND THAT WOULD LEAVE DRIVERS HOLDING
THE GAS PUMP...

GRAPHIC=BAM The Virginia Cavaliers entered

their fourth day of practice this
afternoon wearing shoulder pads.

Later this week the Cavs will
move into the full pad mode.

They may also don some blinders
on their helmets.

With a number of holes to fill
and a number of untested players to
fill them - Groh says there's a sense
of urgency and excitement on the
practice field right now.

:00 Jack Turner and the Cougars
are coming off their first losing
season in nearly 30 years, which hasn't
set well this offseason with the
players or the coaches and certainly
not the community.

Turner returns just 4
starters from last year, but most of
his skill players are back.

That's a good thing against
the River Ridge schedule and a
non-conference slate that once again
includes 3 Triple A teams. We'll hear
from Turner tonight on News 7 at Six

and find how he plans to get the
Cougars' their growl back in 2006.

back home - opening up a four game
series with the Lynchburg Hillcats
tonight at 7 at Salem Memorial. The

of Kinston.

Take care everybody.

Jean will be back in a moment to
wrap up News 7 at Five.

Wisconsin say they hold Saturday's
winning 208 million dollar Powerball

ticket.

ENG#=2 VO-NAT

VO-NAT So far, no one has officially

claimed the jackpot and a lottery

spokeswoman says it can take days or
weeks for a winner to come

forward.

But the group of about 100 workers at
a Sargento Cheese plant says it has the
winning ticket locked in a safe.

One of the workers says he'll still
go to work today, but he's not sure
what will happen after that.
