Roanoke City, near the same location as
an incident yesterday morning.

It's on the corner of Gus Nicks

Crews are currently working on
the problem.

Officials say one eastbound lane
of Orange Avenue and the right lane
turning on to Gus Nicks are both
closed.

This was the scene around six
yesterday morning at the intersection
of Orange Avenue and 13th Street.

A 12-inch-water main broke --
closing down that section of Orange
Avenue.

The water, however, was restored
within hours.

Just last month, a water main
broke in the same area.

Water authority officials say the
breaks are most likely the result of
old piping.

The 12 inch pipe lying under
Orange Avenue dates back to the 1940s.

the evacuation of a Roanoke County
neighborhood, a viewer from Thaxton
said we had "bashed" truck drivers who
haul hazardous materials.

Joe Darnel wrote, "Drivers who
have haz-mat endorsements on their
licenses are put through intense
training, more so since 9/11. These
drivers are professional and follow
strict laws. If not, the driver and
company face fines in the thousands of
dollars, and that is a start."

When merchants at Valley View
complained that the 581 interchange
remains unfinished 7 years after it
opened, Roanoker Richard Lovegrove
responded.

"So what?" he wrote. "I hate the
congestion there on the rare occasions
I do head that way, but the Roanoke

Valley and the state have much more
pressing transportation concerns than
getting in and out of a shopping area
easily."

"I'd also guess that some of the
folks who want in and out of Valley
View quickly are the same ones who, in
a recent poll, said they want
transportation problems fixed, but
don't want more taxes to fund the
projects and also don't want other
spending cut. Where are those money
trees?"

And finally, Rural Retreat
resident Mike Lindsey weighed in on the
State Sales Tax Holiday.

"I don't see the big deal. I get
to go fight the big crowds, wrestle
away that last pack of index cards from
someone's hand and if I spend $200 I'll
save a whopping 10 bucks.
Whoop-dee-doo!!"

This was the scene around six
yesterday morning at the intersection
of Orange Avenue and 13th Street.

A 12-inch-water main broke --
closing down that section of Orange
Avenue.

The water, however, was restored
within hours.

Just last month, a water main
broke in the same area.

Water authority officials say the
breaks are most likely the result of
old piping.

The 12 inch pipe lying under

Orange Avenue dates back to the 1940s.

With personal computers becoming

to take your PC to a professional to

Another way to go is to use one

Just last month, a water main

Water authority officials say the

When you get rid of an old

are really opening yourself up to

Before you dispose of a PC, it is
