We have some traffic information
to pass along tonight.
Traffic on interstate 581 was
congested this evening because of a
couple of accidents going south bound
near the Orange Avenue exit.
A witness said a tractor trailer
was carrying posts when they fell off,
no one was injured, but state police
say a number of cars have flat tires.

It's official, the day for kids
attending Roanoke City Schools has been
extended to a six hour day....And since
it begins this school year...let's get
right to it, here's a look at the new
schedule.....

The elementary schools will be split
into two groups according to
size....the larger schools will be in
session from 8 to 2:50....the samller
schools will go from nine to 3:15,
middle schools from 7:20 to 2:10 and
the two high schools from eight until
two fifty...But the new schedule
brought some debate at tonight's school
board meeting......

An argument heard more than
once....teachers and parents of younger
children say elementary aged students
perform better earlier in the day, so
why not bump the starting time up
instead of extending the day.

going to be exhausted by the end of the

earlier hours might be more desirable,
safety has to be taken into
consideration.....

the lack of communication between the
administration and the community....

be compensated for the extra time
they'll be instructing?

want to know who threatened lives at
the Courthouse today.

10:45 this morning.
Within 10 minutes, sheriff's
deputies and Christiansburg Police
moved in to evacuate the building.
Bomb sniffing dogs from Roanoke

The building re-opened shortly
after 1:30, but the court cases were
canceled for the day.
Investigators are tracing the
phone call.

Get this, in Waco, Texas,
surveillance cameras at a liquor store
caught a violent robbery on tape.
The robber picked up a liquor
bottle with two hands and smashed it
over the 62 year old store owner's
head.
The robber then jumped over the
counter and emptied the cash register
-- all while the owner's young
grandchildren were watching.
The police have charged a man
with the crime and as it turns out he
was already in jail for unrelated
charges.
The children were not hurt and as
for the store owner...she is in fair
condition.

- as if Al Groh didn't have enough
uncertainty this preseason - today he
lost one of his key players to what
could be a season ending injury.

Deyon Williams, the Cavs'
talented senior wide receiver is out
indefinitely with a stress fracture in
his right foot.
Williams is a co-captain and
without a doubt the Cavs' the top
offensive threat. Last year he ranked
second in the ACC in catches per game.
He had 58 catches and 7 touchdowns a
seasons ago for UVA.
The six-foot three inch 185
pounder is from Upper Marlboro,
Maryland.
Unknowns Kevin Ogletree and
Theirrien "Bud" Davis are now in line
to take his place. Between them they
have just 10 career catches and no
touchdowns.
It's a shame because by all
accounts Williams had made the
preparations that are necessary to have
a tremendous senior season.

knee. He did not play the rest of the
