State Police are on the scene of
a fatal hit an run accident in Campbell
County.

Officials say a man was pushing
his bicycle on Route 29 South around 4
this morning when he was hit by an
unknown vehicle.

The happened about a half mile
south of English Tavern Road.

One lane of Southbound Route 29 in that
area is closed.

Anyone who was in the area
between 4 and 4:30 and may have seen
anything is asked to call Appomattox
State Police.

after pleading guilty to murdering 17

year-old VCU Freshman Taylor Behl.

tearfully entered an alford guilty plea
to the second degree murder of Taylor
Behl.

That means he maintains her death
was accidental, but acknowledges
there's enough evidence to convict him
of murder.

As part of his plea agreement,
the judge dropped some 16- counts of
possession of child pornography.

Outside the courthouse, Behl's
mother read a statement she'd hoped to
read in court.

folks are simulating a disaster.

Henry Street comes alive the weekend of
July 22nd.....SO alive that the new
organization that put the festival on
had enough money to hand over a two
thousand dollar check to TAP, Total
Action Against Poverty.

TAP is currently renovating the
Hotel Dumas -- turning it into a
cultural and artistic center.....a
project the Blue Ridge Blues Society
stands behind.

The center will house Opera
Roanoke, Northwest Jazz Event, an
audotorium and a music lab.

Friedman's Jewelers in Martinsville
occurred yesterday.

At around 3 o-clock yesterday
morning, a window was knocked out of
the front of the store to gain entry
and several jewel cases were broken
into. More than $23-thousand dollars
was taken.

This follows a similar incident
on August first in which more than
$14-thousand dollars was stolen at
almost exactly the same time of
morning.

Both incidents are under
investigation.
