unraveled an alleged terrorism plot..
targeting flights from Britain to the
United States. (John Reid, British Home

are investigating a plot to bring down
a number of aircraft through mid flight
explosions causing a considerable loss
of life Overnight police made several
arrests in London. British authorities
raised the national terrorism threat
level to critical.. and just a few
hours later the Homeland Security
Department in Washington raised the US
threat level to red.. it's highest
level.. for flights from Britain to the
United States.. and to orange for all
commercial flights. The alleged plot
involved smuggling explosives aboard
planes in hand luggage.. prompting an
immediate ban on all hand luggage on
flights leaving the UK. (Douglas

have to be checked in with only a small
number of essential items allowed
through search controls British
authorities made exceptions for people
traveling with infants and prescription
medication.. but were not allowing
laptops, ipods, mobile phones or
handbags inside plane cabins. A British
police source said the plot involved
liquid chemical devices.. and US
homeland security secretary Michael
Chertoff said effective this morning
all liquids including beverages, hair
gels and lotions could not be taken as

She's the 17- year- old V-C-U
freshman who disappeared last
September.

to the second degree murder of Taylor

That means he maintains her death
was accidental, but acknowledges
there's enough evidence to convict him

possession of child pornography.
Outside the courthouse, Behl's
mother read a statement she'd hoped to
read in court.

That's why the city of Roanoke is
taking steps to keep the Mill Mountain
Star illuminating the skies for years
to come.
But, to do that- the star will go
dark from Saturday, August 12th through
Sunday, August 20th.
The structure, which was built in
1949, still has most of its original
parts, and as time goes by it's tougher
and tougher to replace them.
This 100-thousand dollar upgrade
will replace transformers and wiring.
The entire star-site is expected
to be closed one or two days while the
upgrade is taking place next week.
But it's unknown at this point which
days those will be...

shooting in Indiana.

injured.
Yesterday's incident is the first
shooting since federal and local
officials formed a multi- agency task

Friedman's Jewelers in Martinsville
occurred yesterday.
At around 3 o-clock yesterday
morning, a window was knocked out of
the front of the store to gain entry
and several jewel cases were broken
into. More than $23-thousand dollars
was taken.
This follows a similar incident
on August first in which more than
$14-thousand dollars was stolen at
almost exactly the same time of
morning.
Both incidents are under
investigation.

Yesterday, Town Council voted six
to one to allow stadium lighting and
public address systems within the town.
The vote leaves the door open for
the proposed stadium off Price's Fork
Road.
The school board wants to build a
three-thousand seat stadium near the
Stroubles Strew-bulls Mill community.
It's a controversial plan among
residents, but several school members
have said they will build the stadium
outside of Blacksburg if it is denied.
The council will vote on the
proposal at its next meeting.

a number of aircraft through mid flight
explosions causing a considerable loss
of life Overnight police made several
arrests in London. British authorities
raised the national terrorism threat
level to critical.. and just a few
hours later the Homeland Security
Department in Washington raised the US
threat level to red.. it's highest
level.. for flights from Britain to the
United States.. and to orange for all
commercial flights. The alleged plot
involved smuggling explosives aboard
planes in hand luggage.. prompting an
immediate ban on all hand luggage on
flights leaving the UK. (Douglas

number of essential items allowed

authorities made exceptions for people
traveling with infants and prescription

homeland security secretary Michael
Chertoff said effective this morning
all liquids including beverages, hair
gels and lotions could not be taken as

Star illuminating the skies for years
to come.
But, to do that- the star will
go dark from Saturday, August 12th
through Sunday, August 20th.
The structure, which was built in
1949, still has most of its original
parts and as time goes by it's tougher
and tougher to replace them.
This 100-thousand dollar upgrade
will replace transformers and wiring.
The entire star-site is expected
to be closed one or two days while the
upgrade is taking place next week, but
it's unknown at this point which days

ENG#1 Ben Fawley yesterday tearfully entered
an alford guilty plea to the second
degree murder of 17 year old V-C-U
freshman Taylor Behl. That means he
maintains her death was accidental, but
acknowledges there's enough evidence to
convict him of murder.
The state will decide where
Fawley spends the next 30 years in
prison after giving him a mental
evaluation.

from Saturday, August 12th through
Sunday, August 20th.The structure,
which was built in 1949, still has most
of its original parts. This
100-thousand dollar upgrade will
replace transformers and wiring.
