A jury found 24 year Michael
Edward Jones Holmes guilty of first
degree murder.

Last summer, Holmes walked into a
neighbor's apartment on Madison Avenue
shot David Ray in the leg and fatally
shot Connie Mills.

The defense never contested the
facts. Attorney's argued Holmes was
hearing voices and legally insane at
the time.

But the jury didn't buy it, only
taking a little over an hour to find
him guilty.

They then recommended he spend
the rest of his life behind bars.

FEMA has denied an appeal for
individual flood damage assistance in a
number of counties across the region.

On August 4th, Governor Tim Kaine
had asked FEMA to re-evaluate its
decision.

But that apparently didn't work.

The counties affected include
Alleghany, Botetourt, Montgomery, and
the city of Salem.

If FEMA had granted the appeal,
affected residents would have received
funding in the form of grants and low
interest loans to help with damages.

You better have tuned in early
here on your Hometown Station because
Mike wasn't in the game for long.

He played just the first series
leading the Falcons to a Field Goal.

He went 3 for 4 in the passing game and
rushed once in typical Vick fashion for
16 yards.

He gave way to Matt Schaub the
U-V-A grad who threw a 21 yard
touchdown pass to Michael Jenkins who
made a great catch for the only T-D of
the first half.

*CG final New England In the Second Half former Hokie, Bryan 23 Randall, who is competing for the 3rd Atlanta Q-B spot on the Falcons came in and 26 check out the wheels as he takes off
for the long run, that lead to an
Atlanta Field Goal. The Final Score 26
6o 23 Falcons over the Patriots.

their first Scrimmage of Pre-season
practice tommorrow.

Not taking part will be Jahre
Cheesman the Red-shirt Freshman
Cornerback had knee Surgery this
afternoon. That coupled with the loss
of Roland Minor to Wrist Surgery last

weak is another blow to the Tech
Defense that lost 5 players from last
season who are in camp with N-F-L
Teams.

But the players that are back
feel like the 2-thousand and 6 unit
will live up to the history of stout
Hokie Defenses.

Speed They Qualified this afternoon at
Watkins Glen and before they went out
for the offical laps everyone was
pointing to the Pensake Cars as being
the favorites to win the pole.

The first Penske Car on the track
was Ryan Newman proving the Practice
Speeds did translate over, he was on
the pole for a while.

Greg Biffle put the hammer down

to try and get a good starting spot but
all he got was a banged up Race Car.
He will start 41st after hitting the
wall.

The other Penske Car, that one
driven by Kurt Busch, blew the field
away. Taking the top starting spot by
a large Margin. It is Busch's second
straight Road Course pole.

The bronze statue of Lee atop his

Avenue is being renovated.

Several seams on the statue have
separated.

They'll be repaired, while mortar
along the base will be replaced.

A coating will also be applied to

protect the hundred year old statue
from city- pollution.

The Lee statue is the only one on
Monument Avenue that's owned by the
state.

It'll take nearly five months and
400- thousand dollars to complete the
project... just in time for Lee's
birthday this winter.
