GRAPHIC=Israel-Lebanon Some hope for an end to the war

in the Middle East tonight.

All sides say they will abide by
a U.N. cease fire resolution -- and now
Lebanon and Israel have set Monday
morning as the time the fighting will
end.

But, today things actually
intensified on the battle field.

Karen Brown has the story from
the United Nations.

THE CARNAGE IN THE MIDDLE EAST IS
MOUNTING. EVEN AS AS WORLD LEADERS HAIL
THE UN CEASE-FIRE AGREEMENT AS THE
FIRST STEP TO ENDING THE MONTH LONG
CONFLICT

ISRAEL, WHICH IS EXPECTED TO ACCEPT THE
UN RESOLUTION ON SUNDAY, ACTUALLY
STEPPED UP ITS GROUND OFFENSIVE ,
TRIPPLING THE NUMBER OF TROOPS AS THEY
PUSHED DEEPER INTO LEBANON.

(Sot Avi Pazner/Israeli Government
Spokesman)

We are trying to get to where they are
launching their missiles and their
rockets in southern Lebanon, and we are
trying to neutralize their zones.

(nats from Northern Israel)

AND HEZBOLLAH CONTINUED TO POUND
NORTHERN ISRAEL WITH ROCKET FIRE.

(nat sound of Nasrallah speaking)

HEZBOLLAH'S LEADER, SPEAKING FOR THE
FIRST TIME SINCE THE AGREEMENT, SAYS
THEY WILL ABIDE BY THE CEASEFIRE
RESOLUTION, ONCE A TIME LINE HAS BEEN
ESTABLISHED AND ISRAELI TROOPS HAVE
WITHDRAWN FROM SOUTHERN LEBANON.

(KAREN BROWN BRIDGE)

Here at the United Nations, UN
Secretary General Kofi Annan is working
with all sides to come up with a
workable timeline for Israeli troops to
withdraw and Peace Keeping forces to
deploy.

AND NOW ANNAN SAYS THAT ISRAEL AND
LEBANON HAVE AGREED TO CESSATION OF
HOSTILITIES AT EXACTLY THE SAME TIME ON
MONDAY MORNING.

Kofi Annan/United Nations Secretary
General

Preferably the fighting should stop
now, to respect the spirit and intent
of the council decision the object of
which was to save civilian lives.

LEBANON HAS APPROVED THE CEASEFIRE
AGREEMENT THAT CALLS FOR 15,000 OF ITS
TROOPS TO TO BE DEPLOYED AT THE BORDER
ALONG WITH AN EQUAL NUMBER OF PEACE
KEEPING FORCES TO MAINTAIN ORDER.

(nats of protestors)

AND FOR THOUSANDS OF ANTI-WAR
PROTESTERS WHO GATHERED ACROSS THE
GLOBEPEACE CAN NOT COME SOON ENOUGH.

NBC Sports The Busch boys turned right and :00 left in today's Zippo 200 at the Glen.

It was an exercise in road rage for
Greg Biffle and Scott Pruett.

The same could be said for pole
sitter Kurt Busch and Robby Gordon who
traded lots of paint over the final
laps, beating and bangin towards the
checkers. Busch had a little more
muscle in the spirited battle. He took
the Penske Dodge to victory lane for
the second Series win of his career,
both coming in this season.
