one man dead -- and authorities say the
person responsible claims it was
self-defense.

Some Bassett area residents woke
up yesterday morning to the sound of
gunshots ringing out near this mobile
home on Bryant Lane.
Investigators arrived to find
41-year-old William Leslie Perdue
Junior dead at the scene.
They say Perdue appeared to have
died from multiple gunshot wounds to
his upper body.
Sheriff's deputies say they found
the person responsible for the shooting
a short distance from the home, but no
charges have been filed.
That's because that person says
the shooting was in self-defense.
Investigators are still working to
determine exactly what happened.

Franklin County yesterday.

fire around noontime.
Firefighters battled the fire for
more than three hours.
Investigators say it appears the
fire started in the attic, but the
flames spread, which burned the entire
inside of the house.
Officials say no one was inside

Western Virginia Education Classic
football game has raised awareness
about teen dropouts.
In the past, the game has been
played at Victory Stadium.
But once the stadium started
deteriorating, the event moved.
This year's game is between

August 31st at 7:00 p.m. at Liberty's
stadium in Lynchburg.
