may have their hands on some of the
millions of recalled Dell laptop
computer batteries.

the D-500, D-600 and D-610---issued to


students in grades ten through twelve
-- may be affected.

A spokesperson says the district
is working directly with Dell to
replace affected batteries as quickly
as possible.

If you are a student whose already
been issued a laptop for the upcoming
school year- you should immediately
check the status of your battery.

for students but anyone with a Dell
Computer who wants to check their

battery.

water pipe break forced some retirement
community residents out of their rooms
overnight.

The incident occurred just before
11 p.m. at Elm Park Estates near
Tanglewood Mall.

Officials say a water pipe
ruptured on the fourth floor, sending

water down to the floors below.

Residents in six of the units had
to stay at hotels or with friends and
family.

No one was hurt.

The sheriff's office says
32-year-old Sean Burlarley Burr-lar-lee
and his 27-year-old wife Sandra had a
meth lab in their home and were raising
bull dogs to fight.

Earles Road in Rural Retreat late
Monday night.

They found a marijuana growing
operation and seized 19 plants, but

soon realized the house was also a meth
lab.

Hazmat crews were called out and
so was animal control.

Sheriff Doug King says the
Burlarleys were raising American bull
dogs to fight, something he doesn't
want to see in his county.

an armed robbery.

Last month someone held up the
Quick Shop Market on Randolph Avenue.

move in within the next year- and a
number of changes will take a place at
Spartan Square.

The Exxon and Dairy Queen will be
torn down to make way for a strip mall.

In that same plaza- the old bank
building will make way for a new
Starbucks - and right next door, a new
Wendy's will go in.

Also coming to the community- A
Krystal Burger will be built in front
of the Food Lion on Wildwood Road, and
a steakhouse will be built down the
street.

Henry's Memphis Barbecue will go
on Goodwin Avenue where the Crown
station is now boarded up.

south end of Blacksburg.

Now Blacksburg Town Council is
working with a developer to get 6 acres
of that ready for commercial business.

He needed more time to come up

stadium might also be delayed.

File Tape The Montgomery County school :00 board wants to put a three-thousand
seat stadium near the Stroubles
Strew-bulls Mill community.

Some residents don't want the

stadium off Prices Fork Road, and the
Blacksburg Planning Commission rejected
the plan back in March.

Now the county is asking the town
to delay next week's possible vote and
send the proposal back to the Planning
Commission.

This means next Tuesday's public
hearing is now canceled.

cutting back hours to help offset
financial troubles.

File Tape For the first time in 110 years,
the Richmond museum will be closed
every Wednesday from Labor Day to
Memorial Day.

The White House of the
Confederacy will also be closed for two
months at a time starting in January.

To offset money woes, the museum

requested 700- thousand dollars from
the state, but only got 50- thousand in
the new budget cycle.

The board- of- directors has
entertained the idea of moving the
museum to a less congested part of
Richmond.

Some believe an expanding
hospital nearby is keeping tourists
away.

hundred Southside workers without jobs
by next spring.

Burlington Industries announced
yesterday it will shut down its plant
near Hurt over the next six to eight
months.

Officials say overseas
competition and a decrease in demand
for their products is forcing them to
move production to North Carolina
factories.. two in all.

While the plant is just outside
the Hurt town limits, mayor Lillian
Gillespie expects the area to take a
hit.

She's already been in contact
with state lawmakers about finding
another industry to replace Burlington.

Superior Essex has offered to purchase
Optical Cable for six dollars a share -
that's about 36-million dollars.

Superior Essex says Optical
Cable's strong international, military
and government relationships make
complement its own commercial and
telephone company ties.

The Roanoke Times reports Optical
Cable's Board of Directors has rejected
the buyout offer, but it's unclear
whether more such offers may follow.

the milkman.

delivery service in June -- not long
after it stopped delivering to about 20
of its partner grocery stores.

Right now, the company has about
300-customers on its single route
through Franklin County and the Roanoke
Valley.

Officials say they hope to
increase that number, with four
